Obituary

James T. Haas

Town of Maine - James T. Haas, 78, passed away peacefully July 18, 2018, surrounded by his family at Wilson Hospital after experiencing a fall at home. Jim was a member of the Quarter Century Club at IBM and enjoyed working on a variety of machines and printers for 30 years. Retirement didn't suit him so he kept busy with a variety of rewarding jobs such as operating a tow truck for Allyn's Towing, installing Postal sorting machines across the country from Maine to Alaska and then working as a Community Liaison for FEMA where he so enjoyed helping others in their time of need. He took pride in attending car shows in his 1972 Olds 442 convertible. He was a longtime member of Union Center United Methodist Church and The Free & Accepted Masons, Johnson City Lodge #970 and Maine Lodge #399. He served in the Navy from 1957 to 1961.

Jim was proud of his children and greatly adored his grandchildren. He loved attending sporting events and spent countless hours cheering on his grandkids from the stands. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Surviving is his beloved wife of 44 years, Elizabeth A. Haas, his children; Bryan (Wonjung) Haas, Laurie (Albert) Matzelle, Lori (Kevin) Flohr, Deborah (Michael) Eckhardt, Susan (Stephen) Wurth, 5 grandchildren; Megan (John) Rhodes, Trevor, Jeremy and Nicole Flohr, and Cassidy Eckhardt, and one great-grandson Anson Rhodes, along with his brother Bill Haas, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Monday at the Hopler & Eschbach Funeral Home 483 Chenango St. Binghamton. Rev. Leroy Flohr will officiate. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Riverhurst Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 3:00-6:00 pm. Donations in his memory can be made to the Trustees fund at Union Center United Methodist Church, 128 Maple Drive, Endicott, NY 13760. Please sign his online guest book at www.HEFuneralHome.com
