Obituary Condolences

Arnold, Joan O.

Montrose, PA: Joan O. Arnold, 83, of Montrose, PA, passed away at her home on Monday, June 18, 2012, after an extended illness. She was born in Endicott, NY, to the late Clare Carlton and Genevieve (Case) Oakley. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Jeffry C. and Linda Arnold, Omaha, NE; daughter and son-in-law, Jody L. and Daniel P. White, Montrose, PA; 3 grandchildren, Steven P. (Kasey) White, Kamela G. Arnold, and Casey O. Arnold; 2 great-grandsons, Ace Jackson Maxfield, and Jordan P. Steinbach; and half-brother and his wife, Hideo and Junko Nomura, Japan; nieces, nephews, cousins. Joan was predeceased by her son, John "J.B." Arnold; and grandson, Jonathan B. (Arnold) Steinbach. Joan gradated from U.E. High School. She worked the front desk at the "Montrose Inn" where she made her "best" friends and had her most wonderful memories. She also loved dancing; she and her husband took lessons at Arthur Murray studio in Binghamton. While taking those lessons, the instructors, who were from Hawaii, introduced them to their family there, so on vacation in Hawaii, Joan and her family were given the "locals" tour of the Hawaiian hot spots. She was an avid quilter and member of the Crazy Country Quilters Club. She loved to quilt alongside all those wonderful women; the best part was making the quilt for the annual Blueberry Festival. However, Joan's favorite spot in the world was her family's cottage, and later her home, on Acre Lake, named "Hell's Half Acre". A Memorial Service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at the Daniel K. Regan Funeral Home, Montrose, PA, with Susan Bush Pratt officiating. Friends may call on the family from 3 p.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joan's memory can be to Endless Mountains Health Systems Building Fund, c/o the Community Foundation, 270 Lake Ave., Montrose, PA 18801.
