Joe Aston
of Chenango Forks
Our loving father and grandfather, Joe Aston, 72, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2010. He was predeceased by Shirley Aston, has wife of nearly 50 years; parents, Sophie and Myron Aston; and sister, Barbara Corey. He is survived by his loving children, Cheryl and Mike McGowan, Frank and Mary Aston, Tammy Hurlburt, Joe Aston Jr., and Michael Aston; grandchildren, Jack and Jessie McGowan, Katie and Anthony Bucci, Timmy McGowan, Frank Aston Jr., Jeffrey Aston, Andrew Aston, Ryan Hurlburt, Joseph Aston, Lucas Aston, Mandi Aston and her mom, Candi Aston; sister, Madeline and Richard Krach; sister-in-law, Minnie and Joe Condon; several nieces, nephews and friends, including special friends, Melissa and Craig Stephens. Joe graduated from Binghamton Central High School in 1955, and married Shirley, the love of his life, in 1956. He proudly served in the US Navy, and worked for the Binghamton Police Department from 1962-65. He retired from the New York State Police in 1978. Joe loved spending time with his family, and especially cherished being a grandpa. He was an avid golfer where he spent much of his days playing at Genegantslet Golf Club. Joe was a true sports fan, and loved the NY Yankees and NY Giants. He was an active member of the Chenango Forks School District serving 13 years on the school board, and almost 30 years with the Chenango Forks football booster program.
A Funeral Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 20, 2010, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 1031 Chenango Street, Hillcrest. The calling hours will be held for family and friends at St. Francis Church, from 9-11 a.m. Burial will follow in the family plot at Holy Spirit Cemetery. Due to Joe's timeless dedication to the Chenango Forks School District, a scholarship has been established in Joe's memory. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to this scholarship to the Chenango Forks Business Office, 1 Gordon Drive, Binghamton, NY 13901.
