Stephen Vizvary Obituary

Stephen L. Vizvary Jr. of Conklin
Stephen L. Vizvary Jr., 64 entered the peaceful rest of the Lord, surrounded by his family, Thursday afternoon, August 19, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on August 18, 1946 in Johnson City, the son of the late Steven L. Vizvary Sr. He is survived by his mother, Anna Vizvary; his ever-loving wife of nearly 39 years, Patricia Vizvary; his daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer D. and Christopher Zarrelli; his son and future daughter-in-law, Stephen W. Vizvary and Gina Torto; his most precious granddaughter, Corinne Zarrelli; his brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Elena Vizvary; his nephew, Roman Vizvary; his niece, Maya Vizvary; his mother-in-law, Anastashia Holowonitch; his faithful canine companion, "Emme"; and many other close friends and family members, including Dennis and MaryAnn Eagan, and Mike and Carol Zarrelli, who were an essential part of his "caretaking team". His family would also like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff on 1Ross at Lourdes Hospital and the short-term rehab floor at Elizabeth Church Manor for their care and concern. During his long and accomplished law enforcement career, he was a Deputy of the Broome County Sheriff's Department (retired), Director of the Broome County Police Academy, Professor of Criminal Justice at Broome Community College and Regional Security Manager for M&T Bank. He also served his country proudly as a Vietnam War Era Coast Guard Veteran and was a member of St. Michael's Greek Catholic Church, Binghamton. Steve was a devoted family man--tremendous husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all who knew him. He was also an avid fisherman and hunter, who enjoyed the peace and solace of his in-laws farm in Orson, PA. In addition, he loved making candles and was always up for a game of poker. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor, charm and passionate spirit.
Funeral services will be held Monday 9am at the Chopyak-Scheider Funeral Home, 326 Prospect Street, Binghamton and 9:30am at St. Michael's Greek Catholic Church, 292 Clinton Street, Binghamton where a Divine Liturgy will be celebrated by the Very Rev. Michael Kleban. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Rev. Kelban will conduct a prayer service Sunday 6:30pm at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Sunday 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Steve's name can be made to the American Cancer Society, 13 Beech Street, Johnson City, NY 13790. Please light a candle of hope in remembrance of Steve, and sign his guestbook at www.chopyak-scheider.com.

Sorry to hear of Steve's passing, he will be missed. I knew him for many years. He was my Criminal Justcice instructor, I worked with him when I was a cop and again as a fraud investigator for a bank. He was a good man with a great sense of humor. I wish his family the best.

Steve Vizvary will be missed. He was a great guy to work with, and although he was a dedicated employee, his family always came first.
He is an icon in the criminal justice profession.
It was a privilege to be his partner
