W. Richard (Dick) Crawford Obituary

W. Richard (Dick) Crawford
of Punta Gorda, FL
W. Richard (Dick) Crawford, 71, of Punta Gorda, Florida, passed peacefully into the arms of his Savior on Sunday, April 11, in Port Charlotte, FL. He was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Gladys Crawford. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Judith R. Crawford; son, W. Richard (Rick) Crawford of Johnson City; son, J. Ronald and Janet Crawford of Chenango Bridge, NY; and daughter, Mindy and Chris Bufford of Binghamton, NY. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ryan and Lindsey Crawford and Christopher (CJ) Bufford; brothers, Harold (Jake) Crawford Jr. and Jean of Myrtle Beach, SC, Mike Crawford of Tucson, AZ; sister, Aileen Saddlemire and Karl of Gainesville, FL; as well as several nieces, and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Dick graduated from Union Endicott High School in 1956, and was employed by IBM Endicott in several management positions for 37 years. Upon retirement from IBM, he worked part time for Broome County Security Division until moving to Florida in October of 2009. He thoroughly enjoyed both of his careers. Dick was a member of Valley Christian Reformed Church in Chenango Forks. He loved Chenango Forks football, and ran the clock for Varsity football for 30+ years. He coached PeeWee football for the CFCA for several years. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Police locally and helped with the Stop DWI Basketball Classic Tournament until his illness prevented him from doing so. He loved fishing at his cottage at Bradley Brook in Potter County PA with his Uncle "Putz", and in Canada, where he fished with the same group for over 30 years. He loved his family, loved being a grandparent, and was a wonderful husband to Judy for almost 52 years.
A celebration of his life will be held at Valley Christian Reformed Church, 1452 River Road, Kattelville on April 24th (his 72nd birthday) at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Alvern Gelder officiating. Friends may also call at the church on Friday, April 23rd, from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either Tidewell Hospice of Port Charlotte, 5955 Rano Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238, or Valley Christian Reformed Church at the above address.
