Valentine, Edward J.

Edward James Valentine, 77, of Owego, N.Y. and Homosassa Florida, passed away peacefully at home under the delicate care of Lourdes Hospice and his loving family at his side, March 25, 2013. He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Helen Mae Sauerbrey and Louis Sauerbrey; and his father, Edward James Valentine. He is survived by his loving wife Joyce of 51 years; daughters, Cindy and her companion JoAnn (Bristol PA); Vicky and husband Thomas Copp (Homosassa FL.); his son Tim (Bubba) who was his ROCK (Owego N.Y.); grandsons Nathan and Evan Copp (Homosassa FL.) whom he was absolutely fascinated with; a very special niece Michele Rice ( Vestal N.Y.);his half- sisters Mary Elizabeth Hinchcliffe; Connie and Wayne Burrell; Barbara Ann and Tom Dunnigan; half-brother Lewis and Martha Sauerbrey and many, many nieces, nephews, dear friends and fishing buddies. He was born July 22, 1935, at St. Agnes Hospital in Philadelphia PA and was raised by his Grandparents in Little Meadows PA. He served in the United States Army from 1954 -1956 when he was honorably discharged in October 14, 1956. He was an apprentice tool maker for Crown Industries in Owego N.Y. before a 27 year career as a Cost Engineer for International Business Machines of Owego N.Y. He was an original member of the Tioga County Fire Investigation Team which he was extremely proud of. He was also an insurance investigator for Peter Vallas and Associates, Inc., throughout the Northeast. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars-Post 1371; Over 50 years of service and a lifetime member of Croton Hose Company #3-"The Flat Rats"; and a member of the American Legion of Nichols N.Y. He was an avid outdoorsman who truly loved nature: fishing, hunting, talking to wildlife, a simple walk in the woods or around the block; or spending hours watching native birds from his chair. He was extremely proud to mentor his grandsons in the art of fishing and fixing anything and everything. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 29, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park St., Owego, NY with the Rev. William Prentice, Officiating. Burial will follow in the Gibson Corners Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday Evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Condolences may be made to the Valentine family at
