Barry Bowers Obituary

Bowers, Barry

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful" (2 Timothy 4:7) Barry Bowers, beloved husband, father, and friend went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 29, 2013. He leaves his loving memories to be cherished by his amazing wife and best friend of 29 years, Julia Bowers; six children: Corey Bowers and Laura Kennedy, Carey (Hashim) Stanley; Holly (Mike) Sizemore; Brodey (Tiffany) Bowers; Stacee Bowers and (fiancé Adam Martone); and Drew Bowers; three brothers: Jack (Arla) Bowers, Mark (Lisa) Bowers, and John (Polly) Bowers; one sister: Sandy Ferguson; nine grandchildren: Adrian, Coryssa, Troy, Nobel, Harlem, Paige, Hunter, Logan, and Lane; nieces and nephews: Tuff Bowers, Amber Bowers, Autumn Weathers, Alanna Shreder, Matt (Deanna) Shreder, Heather (Bill) Cron, Lesley Bowers, Josh Bowers and (fiancé Lauren), Leanne Bowers, and Aimee Lescault; close friends; Dan and Jodi Farley, Henry and Mary Ausby, Donald and Tamara Cole; and a host of other relatives and friends. Barry was predeceased by his parents, John and Jean Bowers and several aunts and uncles. Barry was born in Harpursville, NY, and attended Harpursville High School. After high school he was a plant manager at Savon (Binghamton NY), after which he took a leadership position at Four Square (Binghamton NY). Barry continued his career at Eck Plastics (Binghamton NY) then was employed at Universal Instruments (Binghamton/Kirkwood NY), as an engineer where he traveled worldwide. Barry then returned to Eck Plastics. At the time of his passing, he was employed by Oneida Molded Plastics (Oneida, NY). Barry Bowers was a true ambassador for Christ, who faithfully served his family, church, and community. His vision was to see others come to the knowledge of Jesus Christ and experience the transforming power of God's love. Barry was a fun and loving husband and father, who spoiled his lovely princess "Juls", often referring to her as 'His Pretty Person', and cherishing each one of his children in his own way. His family was his life and they along with close friends recall the spontaneous words of life he often shared that served as a source of hope and stability. Barry's selfless and compassionate heart was experienced by all whose lives he touched. He had a passion for Jesus and sharing that truth with the world and his life was devoted to fulfilling God's calling on his life. Early on in his ministry, Barry worked with Promise Keepers to foster the development of strong husbands and fathers. In the late 90's he was involved in coordinating a series of community-wide tent revivals called "It's All About Jesus" to encourage unity among Christians in the Triple Cities. Shortly after, he was ordained as a pastor through the Free Methodist Church. In an effort to foster the "true" purpose of church and provide a place to worship freely, he began Public Square Ministries. In 2009, he brought back "It's All About Jesus" - a summer long revival held at the Binghamton Plaza. Barry continued to minister to many up until his entrance into heaven, and his investment in God's work will long be remembered, by all those he encountered. A celebration of life gathering will be held in Barry's honor on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 2 p.m. at 501 Skyline Drive, Vestal NY - home of good friends; John and Cathryn Maczko. Please bring a dish to pass and seating accommodations. Parking is available at Arnold Park, and adjacent church. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, 2013 at the Barber Memorial Home at 428 Main Street, Johnson City, NY. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 3, 2013 at Hawleyton United Methodist Church, 901 Hawleyton Road, Binghamton NY. A private burial will be held at Riverhurst Cemetery, Endicott NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made out to "In memory of Barry Bowers" or donations may be directly brought to Visions Federal Credit Union and submitted under the name Barry Bowers or Stacee Bowers. Barry left a legacy by his words and actions that will live on forever. Our comfort lies in the truth… " Then I heard a voice from heaven say, "Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on." "Yes," says the spirit, "they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them." (Revelation 14:13)

Julie,
It's hard to believe that Barry went to be with Jesus seven years ago today. I am confident that he is with us, watching over us and his gentle, kind, loving spirit will always be here to serve as our example of how to serve Jesus.
I have thought of you and your family often and pray that God brings you strength each day. May His promise to each of us that we will be reunited with our loved ones when our time to join Him in heaven give you and your family comfort and even joy.

Dear Julie and family...We, as mere mortals, are heartbroken to hear of Barry's sudden homegoing! However, we, as children of God, are rejoicing with Barry (dare we even say envious?) as he enters into the presence of our Heavenly Father. Who can understand why God chose this time to call Barry home? We simply say, "The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away. BLESSED be the name of the Lord"!
Michael and I are praying for you all as you go through all the emotions we mortals are prone to experience in the days ahead. May God saturate you with His peace!! Love in Christ.

To the Bowers Family~ There are many times in our lives that people come into them and leave for various reasons. Barry was a man who once he entered into your life he never left. Distance may have separated us physically, but through Facebook and You Tube we were able to keep connected. Barry was an encourager and an advocate for God to the many people Christ wanted to reach and encourage no matter where their walk with Christ was. I will never forget his heart for prayer and the influence it has become in my own life. I think of the many "24" 's and praying in the chapel in the still of the night for our community. Barry tilled a lot of ground and planted 1000's of seeds. Drew said it best when he said it is our responsibility to take the charge! Barry's homecoming is a wake-up call to us all and that each of us have a great responsibility as a Christ-follower to stand-up, be heard and never give up on people. It takes a very special family to share a man as you did with all of us. It didn't matter what time of the day it was...or what he was doing..if you called Barry was there. Thank You for sharing Barry with all of us! He truly is a amazing man who demonstrated the love of Christ by how he lived and loved. May God comfort you and keep you in the shelter of His wing. On those days when it is so difficult always remember it is not Forever...but until we gather together again. He loved because Christ loved...and we are ALL the richer because of ALL of you!

After years of working together at Universal and various ministries, Barry took me to lunch on my last day to wish me well in my new job. He gave me a plaque that still sits on my desk that reads "As in water face reflects face, so a man's heart reflects the man." - Proverbs 27:19. Barry's heart was so full of Christ's love that it spilled over onto everyone he met. Everytime I look at that plaque, it will remind me of Barry's life and his legacy of love.

Dear Julie and family,
It is quite obvious your faithful husband/father had such an impact on so many people. All these words of testimony are wonderful to see especially in the world we live in today. Julie, I always enjoyed running into you because of our upbeat positive conversations we would have and I would always walk away feeling so good. I'm sure a lot of that was due to your faithful husband's impact on you. Please know I will pray that the Holy Spirit gives you the strength you will need in the upcoming days, weeks, months....

Barry's Birthday = our orders from God Almighty. :)

June 2, 2013

Dear Julia and Family,

I was sad and grieved to hear the news about Barry. More so because I couldn't be there for you at this difficult time. I can say without exageration that Barry is the man who most inspired and encouraged my walk with the Lord. I witnessed first hand a man completely devouted to Christ and his family -- who walked the talk. His constant joy in the Lord was evident at all times we crossed paths, especially the time we spent together at Universal Instruments. You should know that the Wednesday Prayer Group he started at lunch times there is still going -- much in part due to Barry's faithfullness and constant desire to seek the Lord and his will for our lives at all times. I am both sorrowful, because I will miss my friend in the Lord, and rejoicing at once. He is with his Lord and Savior and we can all take great joy and comfort in that.

Your Brother and Fellow Servant in Christ,

You have been in my prayers from the moment I heard the news and I will continue to pray for you and your family that God's amazing strength and comfort will be sufficient for you at this time of loss. May your eyes continue to be fixed on Jesus as He leads you step by step in the plan He has for you. I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me...Gal 2:20 Love never fails...I Cor 13:8 Barry loved Jesus and his heart overflowed with His love. That is why he rejoiced in the truth, beared all things, believed all things, endured all things. I'm guessing that is why our dear Barry loved us with such compassion and kindness. He was a wonderful friend. He always spoke encouraging words and was the proverbial optimist. Barry worked hard to advance the Kingdom of God. Barry was a great and humble man. We would do well to pick up his baton and honor him by running a good race. While I rejoice that he is with the Lord, my heart breaks for Julie, her family and all of us who loved Barry. May the peace of God which passes all understanding guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
God bless you Julie and your children.

Julie,
Nancy and I were blessed to have both Barry and you in our lives while we lived in Binghamton. Barry had such a spirit and love for Christ and worked hard to spread His Word whether through the "It's All About Jesus"tent revival and ministries or through his daily contact with people. Barry was always first with a smile and always spoke about you and his family who he loved dearly. May God Bless you and your family through this difficult time and may you take comfort in His promise that one day you will again be united with Barry in heaven.

barry's passing to his eternal home is quite a wake up call to all of us..that our days are truly in the Lords hands, May the love and peace that he is in..surround you all and be of that great comfort that He promises. For because of Christ we are all still one ! Forever connected. I first meet Barry at New LIfe,as he was teaching a class there. He had Christ through his gentle nature & the love was there in abundance..Thank u Lord for Barry..bless & fill the family during this time ! Much Love to you all.

The walk on this earth is to at the end hear our heavenly Father say welcome home and well done my good and faithful servant! Barry got to hear those words when he left this world. We were blessed to have known him and look forward to the day we can all rejoice together again.
