Doctor Jose "Joe" Manuel Pacheco died at Lourdes Hospital on March 19th, 2015 in Binghamton, NY at the age of 66. Jose Pacheco is predeceased by his parents Jose Eduardo Pacheco and Gladys Rosado Sanchez. Jose Pacheco is survived by his wife, Katie Rafferty Pacheco; children, Jonelle Ratliff (husband Kenneth), Jose Pacheco (wife Amber), Nicolas Pacheco (wife Jennifer), Tanesha Davidson, Larenda Cuffie (husband Shawn), and Natoya Taylor; siblings, Bobby Sanchez, Lisa Sanchez, Victor Sanchez (partner Ricardo); grandchildren, Timothy Daniel Malone, Kyla Chase Malone, Eric Alexander Malone, Jose (Cheo) Eduardo Pacheco, Isandro (Izzy) Manuel Pacheco, Tela Rose Pacheco, Divine Davidson, Trinity Williams, Lashawn Cuffie, Zane Cuffie, Sha'vone Cuffie, Zavier Cuffie, Andre' Cuffie, Aidyn Cuffie; also beloved cousin Rose Pacheco. Jose Manuel Pacheco was born on June 29th, 1948 in New York City, New York to Jose Eduardo Pacheco and Gladys Rosado Sanchez. He graduated from New Haven University where he starred on the basketball team. Later in life, he was inducted into the New Haven Hall of Fame. After college, he played professional basketball in Puerto Rico and traveled with the Puerto Rican team to the Pan Am games. While he lived in Puerto Rico, he welcomed his children Jonelle, Jose, and Nicolas. Having to retire for basketball early due to knee problems, Jose Pacheco entered medical school at the University of Connecticut. After graduating from medical school, Jose did his residency at Wilson Hospital in Johnson City, NY and initially set up practice in Franklin, PA. After several years in Pennsylvania, he returned to the Binghamton area and became one of the leading pulmonologists in the country. In addition to his medical work, Jose was an accomplished artist. He owned the Pacheco Gallery on Front St in Binghamton where his paintings are still on display. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Wednesday, March 25th at Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango St. Port Dickinson with Rev. David C. Seaver officiating. Jose will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery following the service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 24th from 3pm to 5pm and from 7pm to 9pm. The family will also receive visitors at the Pacheco Gallery located at 86 Front St, Binghamton, NY 13905 on Wednesday from 6 to 9pm. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jose Pacheco's life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made at NBT Bank on Robinson Street in honor of Jose Pacheco. Condolences can be sent to www.wmrchase.com.
