I wish to extend my sympathies to Phil's family. I hired Phil to be a house/pet sitter several years ago after responding to his "Airborne" ad in a local newspaper. He was a wonderful person and treated my pets with great affection, love and respect. I loved the individual diaries he wrote for each visit and each pet! He was 100% trustworthy in every way. He will be missed.

So sorry to hear of Phils passing,he was a wonderful man.I happened to meet him dog walking just a few days after the PBS show The Southern Tier:The War Years.I said "Didn't I see you on TV the other night and he quietly said yea."He told me about having nothing to eat but apples while he was lost in Holland ??,and he still hated them today. He told me about being in a foxhole and having very little ammunition so they had to conserve it while trying to protect themselves at the same time.He also told me that the movie of The Battle Of The Bulge wasn't a real accurate depiction of what really happened, and how they didn't have the heavy winter outfits and warm boots and wore the same clothes for weeks.I asked him a couple more questions and it seemed to bring back some sad memories as some tears rolled down his eyes,so I changed the subject to the dog he was walking.I wanted to ask him more questions,he was a walking history book, but I didn't feel it was my place to bother him or upset him.I only saw him 3-4 times but I can never forget him.He was just a great simple man.Sincerely Don Feheley

Donna

I'm SO, SO saddened by your loss. So hard to accept, after seeing the gorgeous photo of you both at the weekend.

Only those who have loved and lost someone so close can begin to appreciate how you must feel at this time. I can.

Phil and all the other "Raveno Boys" paid a high price all those years ago to earn me the right to live here in Peace and Freedom. I owe each of them an eternal debt of gratitude I can never repay. The Memorial is the small beginning of my way of saying "Thank You."

Phil's name on the Memorial will endure as a reminder of his passing this way. I am proud beyond words to have known such a Man, if even briefly and from a distance.

Maybe one year I can persuade you to come to Normandy to plant an Olive tree at the Memorial in Phil's memory? He'd be in the company of other Giants whose trees flourish in their Memory.

Please, please keep in touch...

To the Last Drop, and then some...

David

Donna, my condolences on your loss. I'll miss Phil at Mass, and think of him everytime I run a race - and hope I can keep running as long as he did. As an old runner, Phil is my hero! Phil. To paraphrase St Paul - Phil, you have run a great race - you have earned your rest. God bless, and may you rest in peace,

"When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home."
- Tecumseh
Uncle Brosie left this earth the same way he lived on it - with humor, love, courage and dignity. He was an amazing uncle and one of the truest heroes I have ever know. Enjoy your journey home, Uncle B.

Russel family,
I only knew Phil through working with him in IBM. I started in 1966 and was just a kid from out of the area. I didn't know anyone, and Phil made me feel so comfortable. He was always quick with a joke or prank, and was always fun to work with. We both had MG'Bs back then, and loved talking about driving and working on them. He was the only person I ever knew who ran to work in all kinds of weather.
Your family has truly lost a great man.
RIP my friend.

There was no one like Phil, with his smile, cheerfulness, generosity, wanting to make others happy. What a wonderful person. We send our love and sympathy to you, Donna, but knowing that you will see him again, "so you will not grieve like people who have no hope." (1 Thes. 4: 13) May God comfort and strengthen you at this time.

Our deepest sympathy, prayers and thoughts for the family. Phil was the most wonderful person; he took care of our doggies, brought in our mail, and looked after the house while walking the dog. His sense of humor, his gentleness, and his bravery for serving our country. He will be fondly remembered.

To the entire and extended Russell family, please accept my deepest sympathy. When I was younger and growing up the all of the Conklin Forks kids, Phil was like another father... just a little farther down the road. He always had time for us, always had a smile for us, and always took time to help if we needed it. We trekked all over his land, swam in his creek, went sleigh riding, and later when we had motorcycles, he allowed us to ride anytime. His field was the central football and baseball field for everyone. We even helped mow the lawn. Phil left a legacy for all of us that lived (or live) in Conklin Forks. You will be missed.

Dear Donna and family, I'm sorry to hear of Phils passing. I'm so glad to have known this kind and loving man through running. He loved his family and felt blessed. When I moved back from Texas and joined the running club you and Phil embraced me. One race I said to him I hope I find the loving relationship you and Donna share. He said I'm blessed, I have a gem. Memory Eternal Phil .

Donna and family, I was so sorry to hear of Phil's passing. I always looked forward to seeing him and hearing the stories he would tell. He loved his family so much and would always ask me about my family. That meant a great deal to me. I was marveled by his strength and incredible attitude. I am sure his beloved "Pupper" will miss him greatly. ...as will his family and friends. It was my honor to have had the last ten years getting to know him. God Bless you all.
