Nathan was a keeper in all the very best ways. From the time I got to know him in his middle school years through his summer stints with Champs Camp I learned--not surprisingly--that he'd not fallen far from the Proto-Abdallah family tree. Nate's untimely passing makes it all too painfully evident that the world is not a just place it is just a place. My heart goes out to all who counted Nate an important member of their tribe. He will always hold a special place in my memories of my own LUSD family.

Mr. Proto was my daughter Catherine's kindergarten teacher, in Cloverdale, Ca. during the 2007-2008 school year. I was working a swing shift job in those days, and spent quite a bit of time in his class, with him and the children. Nathan was a fine young man and a warm teacher. We talked about many topics, and had some spirited debates. His children loved him and so did I. He will surely be missed. God Bless his family always.
