Dixon Anne Sheldon

Dixon was born in Pomona, the first of two daughters of Burl and Esther "Buddy" Howell. The family moved to the Sebastopol area in 1935. Burl and Buddy relocated to Santa Rosa in 1960. Dixon attended Analy High School (class of '42). She attended Santa Barbara College before enlisting in the U.S. Navy WAVES Div. While stationed at Hawthorne, NV. Dixon met Dean Sheldon. They married December 1, 1945. The Sheldon's studied health/PE at Univ. of Oregon and moved to the Coos Bay area in 1951. They loved this coastal community for making friends, raising a family and getting involved. They opened their home to hundreds of visitors, many on exchange trips, others just passing through Coos Bay. While her children were young, Dixon was a busy substitute teacher in area schools, later becoming a health teacher and retiring in 1989. Dixon is survived by her cousin, Juan Forster; by four sons; ten grandchildren; and a great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her sister, Jean Howell; her husband and her parents. A service will be held Saturday, Aug. 14 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Coos Bay, OR.
