Emery VanNoy Barrus

BARRUS, Emery VanNoy Born December 13, 1919, died October 14, 2003. He passed away at Kaiser Hospital in Santa Rosa. He was born in Wyoming. At 19 years of age, and after 2 years of college, he joined the Military as a Radio Operator. He applied for pilot training and was able to go to school and become a pilot. He went to India and flew the Hump to China and Burma. He completed 144 round trip missions over the Hump. He then came back to California and flew the Pacific. He did this until the end of the War. It was here that he met Mary and they were married July 19, 1945. Shortly after, he joined the United Airlines Fleet and was a Captain for 34 years. Retirement in Santa Rosa brought many good friends and a very nice life. He joined Rotary and after a few years, retired when he started writing books. Five of his books have been published. His son Jeffrey Scott lives in Raleigh, NC and is a Captain with American Airlines. Emery had two grandchildren, Jeffrey Scott and Wendy Sue. His daughter is Tamara Lynn, married to Rob Daniels. He has four sisters; Mabel Millward of Kennewick, WA, Audra Oberhandsley of WA, Margaret Cheney of ID, and Naunie Gardner of Reno, NV, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Emery was a member of World War II Pilots Club, Santa Rosa West Rotary, and the Wild Oak Saddle Club. Family and friends are invited to attend Funeral services at EGGEN & LANCE MORTUARY on Wednesday, October 22, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Santa Rosa Memorial Park.
