Gerry, you and I go back to "Grades 4/5" at Telkwa School, before it became Telkwa Elementary, with Mr. Clotworthy as our teacher. We basically grew up together in Telkwa, with Uncle Art, your big brother, married to my Auntie Frankie (Noonan) and his sister aka "Auntie Beryl" trying her best to teach me how to play the Piano! I probably spent as much time at the Bates' house next to the Telkwa Hall as I did at home, and when you moved to the "Eddy." Gerry's brother Dick and I became buddies, and when Gord's girlfriend left Telkwa to join the Airforce, I thought that was a great idea. As soon as I was 18, I applied and joined the RCAF. Gerry in the meantime you'd gone on to other things, like becoming an electrical engineer, if I remember correctly., or maybe it was a plumber! We went our separate ways before we were in our 20's, but being "extended family" somehow always kept in touch and our kids connected! The last time we had hugs, it was when your big brother/my uncle, Art was in hospital in White Rock. Gerry, you were the patriarch of the Bates family, last of the Mohicans, as you'd say. Miss you already, and love you forever as a friend, extended family "cousin." Rest in peace.
