Many wonderful childhood memories of hanging out with Heath and Zac (and Jan, Bubs and Shawna) Many many laughs. His laugh used to make me laugh even if I had no clue why he was laughing. I am deeply saddened. Such a devastating loss. My deepest condolences.

I worked with Heater a few years ago, when I was at Yellowhead Helicopters. He was a great man, with great humor, and who could forget those sideburns.

I am devasted to learn of his loss, it is devasting to his family, friends and the aviation industry.

Not all heroes wear capes, and Heath is a true hero, may he rest in peace

My thoughts and condolences

I’m so sorry to hear this crushing news. Our family enjoyed many social occasions in the presence of Heath and his sweet wife Jenn, and then-little boys. Thinking warmly of his family during this tragic experience. Be well Jenn, Ethen and Danton.

Heath was my cousin and best friend growing up. Since I can remember He had his sights set on the sky and flying was always his dream, he never waivered. I am so sad for everyone who is touch by the loss of Heath when he had so much more time to give. My Condolences to Jennifer, Danton, Ethan, Jan, Gerry and Shawna. My heart is broken for you.

High Flight
by
John Gillespie Magee, Jr.

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov’ring there,
I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air . . .

Up, up the long, delirious burning blue
I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or ever eagle flew —
And, while with silent, lifting mind I’ve trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

So very sorry for your loss...

I did not know Heath, but wanted to reach out because my Dad was a helicopter pilot from Prince George, who lost his life in a crash in Australia. He was there for the fire fighting season.

I know it was a small measure of comfort to know that his life's passion/work touched so many people and was appreciated by so many. I hope that you are receiving many similar messages. I am so sorry you lost your loved one, while he was working to protect others. My sincere condolences.

The time of passing seldom seems right to those left behind .. hopefully there will be some comfort for family and friends knowing Heath lives on in the cherished memories and deep friendships he established during his time with us .. I suspect Heath was smiling at the love and support shown not only to his family, but between friends and acquaintances at his beautiful memorial .. His professional legacy also continues, carried forward by those pilots that he trained and mentored and who in turn will pass on a little bit of Heath to those that follow in their footsteps .. people who never knew him will benefit as a result of his expertise and commitment to provide a safe flight .. A pilot can't ask for much more than that ..

It was a personal pleasure to know Heath and watch him flourish from the time of his selection as a junior pilot with Northern Mountain and thru the years he later spent with VIH and Yellowhead, to become the recognized training pilot and manager so many remember him as ..

Thank You Heath, for being You !

I am so sorry that Heath has left those who loved him early. I am very grateful for the time I got to spend in the cockpit with him, and he made myself and many others better and safer pilots. Overall the world around him was a better place because of Heath.

I was lucky and privileged enough to have Heater pass on his immense knowledge of flying to me. This spring I trained with Heater for the first time. He passed on his skills and mentored me though my endorsement on an Astar. I am forever grateful to have that opportunity.

Thank you Heater

Heath was an inspiration to all of us pilots! You could always tell when he walked in the room at Mike Weigeles as the room would brighten. Always smiling and making everyone feel welcome and at home. Our blessings go out to his family in these hard times! We will be thinking of you and are so sorry for your loss.

First, my sincere condolences to Gerry as well as Jennifer and his Sons whom I did not have the opportunity to meet. When I heard the news just yesterday (02 July) of Heath’s passing, I was deeply saddened!

In the early 1980’s, I lived in a little cabin at Edmonton Beach, not far from Gerry and Heath’s cabin/home. I was a young Helicopter Engineer and Heath was over to my place often, where he would constantly ask me questions about helicopters, what made them work, and how they flew. He told me many times he was going to become a Helicopter Pilot. Of course, time marches on, I got married and started my Family, moved from the ‘Beach and lost touch with Gerry and Heath. Several years later I was excited to hear he had pursued his dream and earned his Helicopter Pilots License! From all accounts that I have read and heard over the last few days it is obvious he excelled as a Husband, Father, Helicopter Pilot, Mentor, and on and on. This does not surprise me at all as I do remember the excitement of the young Heath in the conversations we had, that excitement turning to passion in the things he lived for and did.

Once again, to your Family, may the coming days be filled with good memories of Heath and the happy times you had together to help soften the touch during the days ahead.

Rest in Peace Heath.

I have worked with Heath for over 18 years as an aircraft maintenance engineer. I worked closely with Heath on multiple jobs through the years and I have so many memories of Heath professionally. Heath was a great pilot who was thorough, fair, committed and a leader. He was respectful of those around him and highly respected by pilots and engineers alike. however my greatest memories Heath were after hours. Heath was fun, a great guy to be around and a bit of a rascal. He had many friends and was always up for a good time whether it was a small get together or an all night run away with the boys. He will be missed. Bill Dean.

Dear Jen,
We are so sorry for your loss. Our heart goes out to you and the boys during this difficult time.
Heath had such a positive effect on everyone he worked with, this leaves such a large hole for us never mind for you as his wife and family. The days ahead we will have ups and downs and we wish you to have more ups than downs.
May the sunshine on you and hopefully making it easier day by day.

Heater
I can remember the first time you hopped in my machine so long ago in Ft. Nelson. You were still a long haired tree planter/bagger with that aspiration to go fly helicopters.

I still laugh about that night you called me when you came down to the Fraser Valley to start training.
“You b@st*d” you said over the phone after finding out that Dick Wood wasn’t the ole Woodstock Hippie I described to you when you asked me if you should cut your hair before coming down!

I remember fondly the midnight beers and croquet games in P.G.

Though we never saw each other very often after you started your flying career, I always enjoyed catching up with you when we did cross paths, whether in a small town or just having a few laughs at a Heli convention. I always appreciated that you took the time to come by and say hello when you flew through town.

To your family, I pass on my most sincere condolences.

You were a kind soul Heater..and will be missed by so many!
Rest in Peace
