Domenico Celli Obituary

Domenico Celli (1939-2017) Surrounded by his children, Domenico Celli passed away peacefully on April 1, 2017 at the Prince George Hospice House. Domenico was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Louise Celli. He was also predeceased by his parents, Costanza and Donato. He is survived by his children; Tony (Chris Siebert), Dina (Dean Herdman) and Paul (Tanja) and his grandchildren; Jessica and Jenna Herdman and Nico Celli. He is also survived by his brother Evandro, his sister-in-law Josie (Ted) Kohlen and many nieces and nephews. Domenico was born in Carrufo, Italy on December 12, 1939. At the age of 16, along with his mother and younger brother, he made the journey to Canada by ship to join his father who had arrived the prior year. The trio arrived in Halifax in December 1955 and crossed the country by train, making Quesnel their home. This is where he met our Mom and they were married on May 18, 1963. Dad was a railroader at heart, and had a 40-year career with PGE/BC Rail starting as a section-man and working his way up into management in the engineering/track maintenance department until his retirement. He was very proud of his involvement in building the railroad north of Prince George. His work moved his family around the province until 1970 when they settled in Prince George. In the mid 1980's Louise and Dom purchased some bare land on Stuart Lake and spent the next 30 years building, gardening, fishing and enjoying lake life. Dad loved his family which included many canine companions. His grandchildren brought him much joy and their various activities kept him entertained. He was known to make some potent wine, and his mission was accomplished when his guests left with a full tummy and a light head. He will be remembered for hosting the "Dominator" fishing derbies and his bear dance performances. Dad had been battling cancer for the past 2 1/2 years with his usual determined style. Special thank you to Connie from Northern Health home care, and to Dr. Linda Wilson and all the nurses and staff at the BC Cancer Agency for the North. He truly loved you all. Also, thank you to the angels at the hospice house. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Prince George Hospice House would be appreciated. Dad had requested no funeral and his ashes will be placed alongside our Mom's in the Tranquility Gardens, Quesnel. Dad, you will be missed and never forgotten.

With great sorrow and the fondest of memories we offer our deepest sympathies to the family of Domenico Celli. From those hay days on the BCR with Domenic as Roadmaster and my father working under him as section foreman, my father entertained me with stories that were numerous, lively and bright. They were told to me with the deepest respect for a man that was an expert railroader, a mentor and a hard worker. From those hay days: time passes quickly, seasons change, men grow older, different paths are taken, but respect and admiration stays true and is alive in memories. With affection in our hearts we too feel your loss. Domenico Capozzo and Family
