Rodney Mathis Obituary
He was born Sept. 23, 1969, to the late Emily D. Dillard and Ronald W. Dillard. He was also preceded in death by his grandmothers, Dorothy Whittaker and Emily Brown; uncles, Albert Davis and Leroy Davis Sr.; sister, Sonja Mathis; and two brothers-in-law, Melvin Thorpe and Carillon Lee Evans Jr.
He is survived by a very devoted and loving wife, Delores Mathis of Petersburg, Va.; two daughters, Tierra Jones and Jasmine Evans of Petersburg, Va.; one granddaughter, Emoni Turner; six devoted siblings, Frederick Davis and Angela Blowe (Michael), both of Prince George, Va., Velda Thorpe, James Mathis and Yolanda Mathis, all of Petersburg, Va., and Felicia Shaw (Corey) of Maryland; eight devoted nieces and nephews, Leroy, Keonia and Toneka Davis, Jerome and Shaykia Mathis, Shanekia Thorpe, Melvin and Bre'onda Jones, all of Petersburg, Va., Corey Jr. and Nina Shaw, both of Maryland; four great-nephews and one great-niece whom he loved very dearly, LeDonta Johnson Jr., Quinto Pierce, Javon Davis-Lee, Cameron Mathis and Makilah Cooke; mother-in-law, Delores Evans; two sisters-in-law, Verita Whittaker (Emerson) of Winchester, Va., and Priscilla Evans of Petersburg, Va.; five brothers-in-law, Ronnie Evans (Regina) of Prince George, Va., James Evans (Brenda) of Petersburg, Va., Wayne Evans (Deborah) of Detroit, David Evans (Kim) and Robert Evans (Shelise), both of Chesterfield, Va.; a host of devoted cousins, other relatives, and friends, among them a devoted friend, Matthew Pegram of Petersburg, Va.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010, at Royal Baptist Church, 316 St. Mark St., Petersburg, Va., the Rev. Dr. Phillip Williams, pastor, officiating. The interment will follow at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery.
The family will also receive friends at 150 Monument Ave., Petersburg, Va., and may be contacted by calling (804) 389-2360.
