Ms. Dorothy Bernice Smith
Ms. Dorothy Bernice Smith, known to many as "Aunt Dot" of 932 Rome Street transitioned to eternal life on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at Bon Secours Southside Regional Medical Center.
Dorothy was born May 10, 1936 to the late Frederick D. Smith, Sr., and the late Lillie Mae Pegram-Smith. She was a graduate of Peabody High School Class of 1954. Dorothy was a dedicated employee of the Seward Luggage Company where she served as President of the Union and retired after 46 years of service. After retirement, she was employed by the Foster Grandparents Program as a Daycare Worker for both Booker Daycare and Ligon Child Care. Dorothy was also employed with Virginia Linen Laundry for eight years.
Dorothy was baptized and served as a faithful member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church for 70 plus years. She was a member of the Senior Usher Board and the Mass Choir.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was also preceded in death by her one and only son, Mr. Floyd W. Wallace, Jr.; three sisters, Erma L. Bland, Lillie I. Smith and Bertha S. Cunningham; two brothers, Frederick D. Smith, Jr., and Deacon Robert C. Smith; several devoted nieces and nephews to include Kevin R. Smith, Marie A. Smith, Loma B. Harris, and Theophilus U. Bland, Jr., of whom she help raise.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her memories, a very devoted sister, Mary E. Smith of Petersburg; devoted brother, James F. Smith, Sr. (Karen) of Las Vegas, NV; devoted nieces whom she raised in the home as her own, Yvette S. Davis (Kenneth), caregiver like a daughter-Sharon E. Smith (Fredrick), Fatima L. Smith, and a very devoted Mrs. Bertha C. Green, all of Petersburg, VA; devoted nephews, Charles A. Smith (Linda) of Georgia, Leon B. Smith (Barbara) of Florida, Thomas A. Smith (Tonya) of Dinwiddie, VA and Shaun F. Smith, Sr. (Kyiah) of Henrico County, VA; devoted great nieces, Shaquita C. Christian of Hopewell, VA, Jhcobie D. Smith of Petersburg, VA and Tylecia T. Smith of Chester, VA; devoted great nephews, Kevin R. Morton, Sr., Reginald Jones, Jr. (Amanda), Terrell J. Morton (Tamara), Lloyd Harris, Jr., all of Petersburg, VA; devoted great-great nephews/nieces, Bryson T. Gray of Petersburg, VA, Grayson Clanton of Hopewell, VA, Shaun F. Smith, Shavar Smith, Nevaeh Maye and Jayla Morgan; and a host of additional nieces and nephews to include the Cunningham Family, the Bland Family, and a host of cousins, the Smith and Walker Family all of Petersburg, VA; devoted goddaughter, Lisa N. Kelly (Alvin) of Chesterfield, VA; several devoted friends; Gary Hardy, Linda Hayes, Bernice Dean and Family, the Raigns Family, Judy P. Tucker (Rodney), Carolyn Dillard (Rico), Debra Fisher, Darlene Branch and Erlene Lasane.

Celebration of Life service will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, April 10, 2021 at the Petersburg Chapel of Bland Funeral Home, 137 Harrison St., Petersburg, VA., 23803. Pastor, Walter Wilson, Eulogist. Interment will follow at Wilkerson Cemetery, Petersburg, VA.
