To Gordie Smith's family,
I was a member of the Class of '62 at St. Lawrence University with "Gordie," as we called him. He was co-editor of The Hill News with me. I still remember the fun of deadline nights with him. When the paper was put to bed, i.e. delivered to the patient linotype workers, we would repair to the diner near campus just before they closed. Always we ordered the same thing: chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream. It was wonderful to spar over the stories and the campus news-- fit to print or not-- with Gordie. I believe we shared the same ethical compass, however. I learned of his death from the last issue of the alumni magazine, and regret that we did not stay in touch. To his children and grandchildren, I wish you well. He was a super friend. Jeanne Heffernan Henry

I am so sorry to find out about Gordon's passing. We were very close for many years at the Journal and after we retired, but I lost track after his auto accident in 2016 when I moved to the Cape. Please let me know if a celebration is planned. I think about him and Arthur frequently and smile at our good times.
