CASTRO, MARGARET "PEGGY"
96, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2020 at Silver Creek Manor, Bristol, RI. Born June 26, 1923 in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Francisco and Maria (Simoes) Valentine.
Margaret was a graduate of Hope High School. She was a devoted wife of 55 years to the late Gabriel "Gabe" Castro, Jr. She was a dedicated business partner, working side by side with Gabe in running two successful businesses, Swifty Cleansers and Castro Realty, both in the Fox Point section of Providence, where Margaret was a proud resident for 70 years, before moving to Gabe's hometown of Bristol, RI in their later years. A former Licensed Real Estate Agent and former Member of the Providence Zoning Board, Margaret was also a former active member of the First Ward Democratic Committee and a Past President of the Ladies Auxiliary, Knights of Columbus Fatima Council 4331.
Margaret is survived by her three children, Linda A. Simon and her husband John, Gabriel R. Castro, and his companion, Karin Waldron all of Bristol, RI and Patricia A. Coningford of Warwick, RI. She was blessed with three grandchildren, Stephanie Ramos of Bristol, RI, Kristin Smith, and her husband Timothy of Smithfield, RI and William Coningford of Providence, RI. Margaret was additionally blessed with two great grandchildren, David Ramos and Ryan Ramos both of Bristol, RI. Margaret was predeceased by her siblings, Joseph Valentine, Anthony Valentine, Mary Martin and Palmeda Enos.
Margaret was very spiritual and a woman of great faith, she had a daily prayer ritual, to which she would devote hours, praying for those she loved and cared for. She had great devotion to Our Lady of Fatima and Margaret was a proud "Child of Mary".
An avid Boston Sports fan, Margaret enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox and the Boston Celtics and rarely missed a televised game. She was a bowler for many years belonging to various bowling leagues. In her younger days, she enjoyed dancing the jitterbug with Gabe whenever the opportunity arose. Margaret's strong family values and unwavering faith have been a blessing to her family and a big part of her legacy.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at 12 noon on April 17, 2021 in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 21 Traverse St., Providence, RI to celebrate Margaret's life, a life well lived with blessings of love and family.
