Margaret M. "Rita" Day-Slinn Obituary
95, died Saturday at Philip Hulitar Hospice Center, Providence. She was the beloved wife of the late Henry Day and the late George Slinn Sr.
Born in Aberdeen, Scotland, a daughter of the late Alexander M. & Isabella (Mitchell) Stephen, she worked at Gorham Manufacturing during WWII. She also owned and operated a fruit stand in East Greenwich.
She was a member and deacon of Woodbury Union Church Presbyterian, Warwick where she also served as a Sunday school teacher and Superintendent of the Sunday school. Rita belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star and was a 75-year member of the Daughters of Scotia.
She is survived by two children: Henry Day and Peggy Marcotte (late husband Wayne); two step-children: George Slinn Jr. & Martha Kidd; two grandchildren: Jeremy Marcotte (wife Diana) & Sydney Day-Dourado (husband Tony); five step-grandchildren: Nathan Slinn, Jeffrey Slinn, Alicia Kuehn, Brittany Brown & Woody Kidd; two great grandchildren: Tyler & Jacob Marcotte; seven step-great grandchildren: McCoy, Delaney, Alivia, Brady, McKenzie, McKinley and Quincy; her sister: Isobel LaFazia; her cousin: Ronald Kidd of Scotland and several nieces & nephews. She was the sister of the late John & Alexander Stephen.
Calling hours Friday, September 7 from 4-7 PM at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Ave., West Warwick immediately followed by a funeral service at 7 PM. Interment in Pocasset Cemetery, Cranston will be private.
