R. Claire (Mcnulty) Padien Obituary
PADIEN, R. CLAIRE (McNULTY)
93, of Warwick, died peacefully June 12, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late John J. Padien, Jr., her husband of over 65 years. They met when they were 14 and 15 years old and were engaged on Valentine's Day.
Born in 1924 in Providence, Claire was the daughter of the late Daniel J. McNulty, Sr., and Mary "Molly" Josephine Mahoney.
A life-long Rhode Islander, Claire was raised in Mount Pleasant, attended Blessed Sacrament School, and graduated from St. Patrick's High School in 1941. Claire worked as a secretary in Providence City Hall.
With her husband, Claire had eight children and was a devoted communicant of St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Warwick for over 61 years where she participated in numerous parish ministries.
Demonstratively proud of her Irish roots, she could always be counted on to regale those in attendance with her unabashed rendition of "God Save Ireland" or "Mrs. Murphy's Chowder." Claire was the beloved, devoted and proud matriarch of her enormous Irish-Catholic clan and a trusted confidant for generations of those who sought her counsel. She reveled in all aspects of life, enjoyed gardening, wrote letters to servicemen overseas during World War II and collected donations of used clothing for the indigent of Liberia.
Preceded in death by her husband John, her sister Mary Cecily McNulty, FCJ, her brother Daniel J. McNulty (Doris) and a daughter Mary. She is survived by seven of her children, John J. Padien, III (Wendy), Mary Anne J. Padien (J. Douglas Havens), William B. Padien, (Allison Brown), Claire Marie Padien (Russell Berdoff), Paul P. Padien (Susan), Daniel J. Padien (Rosemary Foster) and Anne Marie Hale (Michael); her beloved goddaughter, Ann (Peterson) DeLoreto; her 18 grandchildren, John J. Padien, IV, Linden Patrick and Aidan Daniel Padien; Molly Catherine, Claire Monica and Abigail Anne Padien-Havens; Jameson Dean and Mikhaela Moore Brown-Padien; Paul Alexander (Faye), Matthew Lindsay, Elizabeth Grace and David William Padien Berdoff; Ryan Patrick and Madalyn Jane Padien; Maeve Amelia and Finnian Daniel Padien; Isabelle Anne and Margaret Mary Hale, and two great-grandchildren Cameron James and Mia Trinity Padien.
The entire Padien family will be forever grateful to the skilled and loving caregivers at Brentwood Nursing Home for their years' long care of Claire and John.
