Ruth Dugdale Obituary

DUGDALE, RUTH B., 98, a well-known Rhode Island artist and long-time resident of Warwick, Rhode Island passed away quietly in Raleigh, North Carolina, where she had resided since 2012. Born in Waterville, Maine, to the late Hortense (Richards) and Larry Williams, she was the sister of the late Hope A. Duff and wife of the late Richard V. Dugdale. She leaves her daughter, Joanne MacConnell, and her son and daughter-in-law, David and Carola Dugdale, all currently of Wake Forest, North Carolina. Her family and her many friends will miss her deeply. Ruth was always active and enjoyed figure skating, golf, and swimming, and her most passionate activity, painting. She also enjoyed several trips to Europe, and during one summer, spent a memorable month in Italy studying and painting with a group from Finch College in New York. Ruth was a founding member of the East Greenwich Art Club and a lifetime member of the Providence Art Club, where she had maintained a studio on Thomas Street for many years before working out of her home studio in Warwick. She also held artist memberships with the Wickford Art Association and the South County Art Association. Although she mostly enjoyed painting landscapes in oils, she was also known for her watercolors and pastel portraits. Over the years she received numerous awards, and many of her paintings are in private collections. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 26th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main Street, East Greenwich, Rhode Island. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory can be made to the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 186 Amaral Street, Riverside, RI 02915 (https://rispca.com/index.html), as it was her desire to support the humane treatment of all animals.
