Helen Gannon Obituary

Gannon, Helen Carr
70, of Narragansett, formerly of Cranston, passed away on Friday, February 5, 2021 at home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Kathleen V. (Carr) Gannon.
Helen was a Graduate of St. Paul School in Cranston and St Xavier Academy in Providence. She received her Bachelor's Degree from Rhode Island College and went on to work as an educator for St. Paul School in Cranston and Roger Williams Middle School in Providence. She was an active member of St. Paul Parish and served as a Eucharistic Minister. She was also a member of the Bonnet Shores Beach Club.
She was the cherished aunt of Richard N. Gannon, Jr. (Lynn) of Warwick, Scott M. Gannon (Amy) of North Kingstown, and Kerrie L. Graziano (Michael) of Cranston, the beloved grand-aunt of Katherine Gannon, Christopher Gannon, Alexis Graziano, and Jack Gannon, sister of the late Charles A. Gannon and the late Richard N. Gannon, sister-in-law of Ann Gannon of Warwick and the loving owner of her four-legged companions, Eddie and the late Sammy.
Helen gained much happiness through her circle of life-long friends. She had a gift to draw people in with her positivity, compassion, and generosity. Helen touched so many throughout her life – family, friends, neighbors, and students - and certainly left the world a better place.
Due to the Pandemic, a Private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul Church, Cranston. Interment at St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket will also be private. Funeral Arrangements are entrusted to THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Ave, Warwick.

Helen with the beautiful, golden hair! You were always such a pleasure to work with at SPS and I appreciated the few times you helped coach the softball team! We had some great times together and I know heaven will be a little more 'bouncy' with you there! Hold onto your wings, everyone!
Rejoice with the Lord and his angel, Helen!

I first met Miss Gannon many years ago when she taught both my sons at St Paul's school. Our paths crossed again a few years back at the MIshnock Barn when I got to know her as Helen. She still had that special smile that made you feel she was glad to see you. So sorry to hear that she's passed. She was a lovely woman. I will smile when I think of Helen. Thoughts & prayers to her family. God bless you all.

Helen was wonderful person. She always made me feel like I was a part of the neighborhood instead of just a letter carrier. I’ll miss the chats we had over the years. She cared deeply for her friends and family. My sincere condolences to all of them, and all whose lives she touched. Rest In Peace.

Helen was one of the first people, along with animal-companion Sammy, I met when I moved to Hall Place almost 20 yrs ago. Best neighbor and friend; we shared thoughts, food, laughter, flowers and families. Her sharing and patience and laughter and listening will be greatly missed as I glance out my window at "Helen's House."

Helen and I were classmates at St. Paul School (Edgewood.) Even as a young adolescent she was extremely kind hearted. I came from a large family and we didn't have birthday parties on our birthday. When I was in 8th grade, Helen got this information out of me and that summer (I have an August birthday) Helen surprised me with a birthday party at HER home! I was so overcome by her thoughtfulness in doing this for me. I have forgotten many of my classmates over the years but never Helen. I went to a different high school and college and after a few years married and moved out of state so I did not stay in touch with my childhood friends but I have never forgotten Helen and her warmth and thoughtfulness. She must have been an amazing teacher. May her memory be a blessing for her friends and family. Jane (Deery) Rones

My condolences to Helen's family , many friends and former students. Although Helen and I became friends in recent years I feel I knew her my whole life. We had so much in common as we were both from Edgewood and now living in Bonnet Shores . Our love for our dogs brought us together and we often met walking our beloved dogs in our neighborhood. She was so upbeat and friendly as was her friend Jane .
I will miss her walking with her Eddie along the streets in Bonnet . RIP Helen

It was my pleasure to work with Helen at Roger Williams Middle School. She was an outstanding teacher and one of the most sincere people I have ever known. She loved her students and was always eager to point out their successes. She spent many summer days preparing her classroom for the fall, often with assistance from her nephews.

R.I.P., Helen

Helen and I would talk about how our respective families went back years together. One of her mother's Carr relatives was my late father John F. McKenna's Godfather in 1902 and her mother knew my aunts Mary and Margaret McKenna. I recall being at the Governor Francis Inn only to discover that my bill had been paid by none other than Helen. Truly a nice person to be around. God bless you, Helen!

Miss Gannon was a wonderful teacher. She made us feel special, cared for and important. I thought of her frequently when I became a teacher, using her as an example for the type of teacher I wanted to be. I was able to thank her when I visited her at Roger Williams Middle School one day. Thanks for all the lives you changed and improved Miss Gannon. God Bless and Rest in Peace...
