Frank (Francis) Wassil, 87, of Edwardsville passed away peacefully on Monday evening Sept. 13, 2021.
Frank was born in Wilkes-Barre on March 8, 1934. He was the son of the late John and Mary Funkett Wassil. He was a graduate of Coughlin High School class of 1952. After high school he entered the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1955. Prior to his retirement in 1997 he was employed in the printing trade. Frank was married to Joan Ford in 1957. They had a loving marriage of 40 years and raised two daughters, Carol and Joan Marie. They enjoyed their two grandsons, David and Steven, taking many special camping trips.
Frank lived in Wilkes-Barre most of his life. He was an active and devout lifelong member of Sacred Heart Slovak Church of Wilkes-Barre, where he was a Eucharistic minister until its closing in 2011.Upon moving to Mountain Top in 2004, he resided there happily with his companion of 15 years, Lorraine Hozempa. He joined St. Jude's Church while living in Mountain Top and served on the hospitality committee. Frank was on the Board of Directors of the N.E. Pennsylvania Club of Printing House Craftsmen and was the president of the local chapter of the First Catholic Slovak Union.
Frank was always active, upbeat and enthusiastic He enjoyed camping, winters in Florida, fishing, traveling across the country and sporting events.
Preceding him in death was his wife Joan Ford Wassil, daughter Joan Marie Wassil, sisters Irene Latsko, Marie Davis, and Theresa Hatalski.
Surviving is his daughter Carol and husband Gary, grandson David Koval and wife Lori of Mountain Top; grandson; Steven Koval of Kingston, brother John Wassil, nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law; Gail Downes and husband; Dorothy Ford and brother-in-law Ray Ford and his wife; son-in-law Rick Koval and Wife Wendy
Funeral services will be at the convenience of the family from the John V. Morris Family Funeral Home, Inc. 625 North Main St., Wilkes-Barre.
Pall bearers were as follows, David Koval, Steven Koval, Rick Koval, Bob Keiser, Robbie Keiser and Matt Keiser.
Interment will be in the Mount Greenwood Cemetery, Shavertown.
