James Allen "Jim" Ross, age 43 of Chambersburg, PA, passed away at his home with his family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, April 27, 2016. Born April 30, 1972, in Vandenberg, CA, Jim was the son of Janet Springston Ross of West Palm Beach, FL.
Jim was a 1997 graduate of Bloomsburg University with a Bachelor of Science degree in History; he worked as an environmentalist with the Appalachian Trail Conservancy in Harpers Ferry, WV, Friends of the Earth, Washington, DC, and the Sierra Nevada Alliance, South Lake Tahoe, CA. Jim served his country honorably in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1991-1994. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He enjoyed hiking, reading, and blogging on his blog, fiercehope.com.
In addition to his mother, Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Amy Kitzmiller Ross, whom he married on August 1, 1998; three daughters, Madelyn, Alison, and Hannah Ross all at home; and two siblings, Thomas Ross of Scranton, PA and Jennifer Hauber (husband Tom) of Moscow, PA.
A celebration of Jim's life will be held on Monday, May 2, 2016, at 3 PM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA, where Rev. Dr. Neal O. Hively will officiate. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service in the funeral home. Military honors will be rendered by members of the Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard following the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made for the benefit of Jim's daughters' college education, to the Commonwealth of PA tuition program, PA 529 Education Plan, c/o Ameriprise Financial, 851 Commerce Blvd., Suite 106, Dickson City, PA 18519.
