Doris Miller Obituary

Doris L. Miller Doris L. Miller, 95, formerly of Marion, passed away October 12, 2015 at Chambersburg Hospital. She was born January 17, 1920 in Altoona to Roy and Effie (Ferguson) Leader. She was the widow of John Miller who died in 2002. She graduated from Altoona High School Class of 1937 and Jefferson Medical Hospital School of Nursing as an RN in 1941. She completed post graduate courses in Pediatrics at Childrens Hospital in Washington, DC. She had worked as an RN at Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia, Children's Hospital and Doctor Hospital in Washington, DC, Altoona Hospital in Altoona, Geisinger Hospital in Danville and Chambersburg Hospital in Chambersburg. She retired in 1983. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Marion, Martha Custis Chapter No 342 OES, and Jefferson Nurse Alumni Association. Doris is survived by her two children, Dr. Michele M. Schantz of Gaithersburg, MD and Charles E. Miller of Bellwood, PA. She has five grandsons, Thomas (husband of Susan) of Spring, TX, Richard A. (companion of Mandy) of Pittsburg, Michael J. (husband of Andrea) of Bellwood, Wesley J (companion of Stephanie). of Phoenix, AZ and Elliot A. of Memphis, TN. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Miller in 2002 and a brother, James M. Leader. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 AM at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, Ltd. Chambersburg with the Rev. Herbert Spomer officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held at Lincoln Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be sent to Salem Lutheran Church, 99 Miller Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 725 Norland Ave, Chambersburg,will be handling the arrangements.
