Linda Gerber Obituary

Linda Staikides Gerber, 66, of Waverly, passed away on March 8, 2019. A victim of Guillain-Barré Syndrome, she was recently hospitalized in Philadelphia at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.
She was the wife of William "Nevin" Gerber. The couple was married over 40 years.
Linda came into this world to the delight of her parents, George and Norma (Kinter) Staikides, on Aug. 17, 1952, in Punxsutawney.
She graduated from Punxsutawney High School. Linda furthered her education at Davis and Elkins College, West Virginia, where she received her bachelor of science degree. This is also where Linda and Nevin met and started their lives together.
Linda and Nevin would write their story in northeastern Pennsylvania. Linda owned and operated The Waverly Deli, and the couple resided nearby in the heart of the Waverly Historic District. They would raise their two beautiful daughters, Lindsay and Devin, there. The Gerbers would then go on to work side-by-side at Gerber Realty.
Linda enjoyed her life, reveling in its small joys. She cherished her family, children, home and friends. If you had Linda Gerber for a friend, you had a friend for life. Her gentle smile will be sadly missed.
She is also survived by a brother, James, of Punxsutawney, and nieces and nephews.
A blessing service will be held Saturday, March 16, at 1 p.m., officiated by Msgr. Michael J. Delaney, pastor, Holy Cross Parish, Olyphant. The family will receive relatives and friends following the service until 3 p.m. at the Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Services Inc., 111 Colburn Ave., Clarks Summit. A blessing service will be held at 3 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Northeast Regional Cancer Institute, 334 Jefferson Ave., Scranton, PA 18510.

Dear Gerber Family,
I had a great pleasure of meeting Linda at The WAVERLY DELI sometime in the 2000s when I was going to the Waverly Community House. She had such a joy for life. I am deeply saddened to hear about Linda's Passing. I remember introducing myself and telling her that I liked the Waverly Deli and she said to me "Thank You Jason, I am delighted to hear that you like the Waverly Deli. You really made my day." Then whenever I would enter the Waverly Deli she would always say with a smile on her face "Hi Jason, How are you today? I also remember that Linda knew so much about the past people of Waverly. People such as George M.D. Lewis, Lewis and Marjorie Black as well as other people. I always remember chatting with Linda about Waverly's Past history. I will remember Linda's nice smile, her laugh, I will also remember Linda wearing nice smelling Perfume. I am sure she is up in Heaven watching over each one of us. William, Lindsay and Devin you are all in my prayers during this difficult time. Rest in Peace Linda. I wish more young girls would take after you having a gentle personality.

To all the Gerber Family,

I am so sad to hear about the loss of your dear Linda. She was a kind and gentle woman who loved and lived deeply. Her joy was telling me about her girls and how well they are doing. I will remember her as a loving wife and mother, a generous neighbor and friend (made the best cheesecake ever), and someone who will be deeply missed.

With sympathy,
