08/31/1924 - 02/27/2021 Betty Kasari passed peacefully with her family by her side on February 27, 2021, at 96 "and a half" years young. Born Elizabeth P. Keplinger in Portland, OR, on August 31, 1924, the family moved to Southern California in 1926, where Betty continued to live for most of her life. She had vivid memories of the Long Beach Earthquake of 1933 and of living through the Great Depression, feeling fortunate that her dad worked for the Post Office. Betty married Robert Cantley just out of high school and shortly before he went overseas for WWII. She was widowed within the year. She graduated from Oregon State University with a B.S. Major in Home Economics and Minor in Food Service Management. She worked for Stouffer's Restaurants in Chicago for four years before returning to California. She worked at Fresno State College and then for Long Beach School District as head dietician, followed by a rewarding twenty-year career as the Lawndale Unified School District Food Service Director. In 1956, she married Leonard Kasari and moved to Torrance where they raised their two children, Lorraine and Lance. Betty and Leonard lived in that same house for 60 years. Betty spent her last three years in Tucson, living with her daughter and family. She is survived by her two children and five grandchildren. Among Betty's many passions were documenting and photographing her life, sharing her many experiences with family and friends. After retirement, she explored the world, was active in the Southeast Torrance community and homeowner's association (SETHA), the YMCA, and the First Lutheran Church. Betty was a respected and cherished member of her community. Services will be held on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at 1:00 p.m., at the First Lutheran Church of Torrance, 2900 W Carson St. In lieu of flowers, please donate to one of the following: Torrance South Bay YMCA, (Note "In Memory of Betty Kasari") or send your donation to 2900 Sepulveda Blvd., Torrance, CA 90505 First Lutheran Church of Torrance or send donation to 2900 W.
