April 4, 1961 - January 11, 2021 With heavy hearts we are sad to announce the sudden passing of David Herrera Figueroa (Figgy) on Monday January 11, 2021 at the age of 59. David was born at San Pedro Hospital on April 4, 1961. He was raised in San Pedro and is the oldest of six children. David was very blessed to grow up with most of his cousins. As a young boy he loved playing baseball at Bloch Field on his Nino Risto's team. He also enjoyed camping at Three Rivers with his family. David was a proud graduate of San Pedro High School. After high school David went on to serve 4 years in the United States Army. He always said his favorite part of being in the military was being able to travel. He loved when he was stationed in Germany because it had the best skiing. After the army he worked at Knudsen for his Uncle Andrew. He then worked at Woodstock Signs for his Nino Risto and later his cousin Mark. Growing up, David loved playing cards with his grandparents, aunts and uncles. His love for playing cards turned into a career and he was a dealer in Las Vegas, Temecula and Blackhawk Colorado. He even opened a successful dealer school. In 2013 David underwent a liver transplant after which he moved back home to San Pedro to be close with family and friends. After recovering from his liver transplant he decided to pursue an education in health care due to all the wonderful nurses and doctors who took care of him. He went to American Career College in Anaheim and Concord University for Licensed Vocational Nursing. After which he volunteered at the VA Hospital in Long Beach. He worked as a caregiver, and for Uber. He was a huge sports fan of the Dodgers, Lakers and the UCLA Bruins and enjoyed attending games with family and friends. David had been fighting COVID 19 at home and thought he was starting to get better when sadly his body gave up on the morning of January 11, 2021. This came as a shock to everyone who knew him. He is preceded in death by his father, Roy Figueroa, his grandparents, Uncles, Aunts and cousins. He is survived by his mother, Dolores Figueroa; sisters, Stephanie Ahumada, Lorraine (Cruz), Roylene and brothers, Vincent (Diane) and Greg (Yami). He was very proud of his 13 nieces and nephews and 14 great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by many close Aunts, Uncles, cousins and close friends.
