17 December 1922 - 4 February 2021 Dena Nanos Petrofanis, daughter of Andrew and Stella Androutsos Nanos, born in Union City, New Jersey on 17 December 1922, passed away on 4 February 2021. She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie (Robert) Vezzuto; grandsons, Christopher, Michael and Robert Vezzuto, her nieces and nephews, Katherine (Harris) Mantikas; George and James Harris; Stephanie (Makrides) Jordan; George and Andrew Makrides; George, Peter, Elliot, and Sherri Eliades and many relatives in Maryland, Virginia, Connecticut, Washington D.C., New York, New Jersey, and Canada. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Christy James Petrofanis; her daughter, Kathryn Marie Petrofanis; and her sisters, Virginia Makrides and Audrey Eliades. Dena attended Haaren High School in New York City and moved to Washington D.C., where she attended college and was an Adjudicator at the Department of State for thirteen years. She married Christy on 20 February 1958. His service in the U.S. Navy took them to various locations before settling in San Pedro, where they resided for the next sixty years. Dena assisted her husband for many years in his real estate appraisal practice, and enjoyed traveling, church activities, cooking, outings with friends, following current events, and an avid love of reading. A private funeral service was held on 10 February 2021. The family gratefully requests that donations in Dena's memory be made to the Disabled American Veterans Charitable Service Trust at www.cst.dav.org.
