Nov. 25, 1924 - April 8, 2021 James Robert "Jim Bob, Bob, Dad & Poppie" Murphy passed away peacefully on 8 April, 2021 at the age of 96, in his Long Beach, California home. Bob was a caring husband, brother, father, grandfather, and friend. His battle with serious health issues in recent years showed his courage in facing life challenges with laughter and a smile. Bob served in the United States Army's 1158th Engineer Combat Group in the European theater during WWII where he took part in operations in support of the Normandy invasion. After his military service, he graduated dental school (age 34) and opened his practice in San Pedro where he focused his talents on supporting merchant mariners and the local community until his retirement (age 85). Bob had a passion for cycling and travel to include combining both for wonderful adventures at home and abroad. He was also an avid WWII historian, train lover, and a scale railroading enthusiast. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit along with a love for a great chocolate milkshake. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Noelle, his children and grandchildren. Due to COVID restrictions private services were held. Please sign the guestbook at mcnerneysmortuary.com.
