April 13th, 1931 - January 28th, 2021 Dr. Robert Marvin Laxineta, born April 13, 1931 in Los Angeles, California to David Laxineta and Katie Margolis. Robert passed away peacefully on January 28, 2021 at his home in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. Robert is survived by his wife, Sylvia Laxineta, who he married in Los Angeles on August 30, 1953; his brother, Irvin Bernard Laxineta (Marilyn); his sister, Phyllis Reeva Harris; and five children, Beth Susan Platt (Mark), Cheryl Diane Goldasich (John), Gail Ellen Starinieri (Gian), Janet Lynn Glazier (Bob) and Lisa Ruth Cox. Also seven grandchildren, Stephanie Heather Weir (Larry), brian Casey Platt (Luz), Josie Platt (Audrey), Samantha Ann Opperman (Daryl), Nicholas Starinieri, Anthony Starinieri, and Katie Glazier. Also five great grandchildren, Kayden Alexander Weir, Carson Brady Weir, Kellan Beckett Weir, Phillip Fitzgerald Platt, Luz London Platt, James Michael Platt, Ellie Anne Platt, Luke Cullen Opperman and Reed Cole Opperman (in the oven). Robert graduated from the UCSF School of Dentistry in San Francisco, California in July of 1958. After graduating second in his class and receiving, the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon award (OKU), Robert and Sylvia moved to Southern California, where he became a Captain in the United States Air Force, stationed in Long Beach. Upon being discharged from the military, Robert and Sylvia settled in Rancho Palos Verdes and Robert opened a dental practice in the South Bay, where he practiced dentistry until his retirement in 1999. He was a member of the Alpha Omega Dental Fraternity, The American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, where he served as President and Trustee, and the Academy of General Dentistry. Robert received many awards and honors throughout his career. He was a Fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy (a fellowship based on service to the dental profession), the International College of Dentists (a fellowship based on leadership), the American College of Dentists (a fellowship based on ethics) and the Academy of General Dentistry (a fellowship based on continuing education). In addition to his honors, Robert taught clinical and pre-clinical dentistry at the UCLA School of Dentistry and the USC School of Dentistry. Robert lived a full life and will be remembered always for his generosity and love of family.
