Lynn Johnsen Obituary

Lynn Johnsen

March 3, 1959-December 1, 2018

Heaven gained an angel on December 1st, 2018 when Lynn C. (Schroeder) Johnsen of Port Byron passed away at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf. Lynn battled pancreatic cancer as courageously as possible for six months.

Visitation for Lynn's family and friends will occur from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 4th at the Gibson - Bode Funeral Home in Port Byron. Lynn's funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 5th at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church on Hubbard Road in East Moline, and burial will follow the service in the Church Cemetery. Family and friends are also invited to a luncheon at the Church on the day of Lynn's service.

Lynn Christine Schroeder was born in Moline on March 3rd, 1959, the daughter of Shirley and Darrell Schroeder. She attended the Silvis and Riverdale school systems, and graduated from Riverdale High School in 1977. Lynn married Ted Johnsen of Port Byron on July 16th, 1977, and together they raised three children, before later divorcing.

While in high school, Lynn travelled over the Christmas Holiday in her junior year to Europe with a group of girls from Riverdale High, accompanied by one very brave chaperone. The trip sparked in Lynn a deep love of Europe, especially England, and led to other trips throughout her life with her mother, sisters and aunts. While attending Black Hawk College, Lynn also acquired certification as a licensed travel agent.

For twenty years, Lynn worked for ORA Orthopedics in the business and scheduling offices in Moline and Davenport and she also worked on the weekends for Bridges, Inc., helping to cater wedding receptions and parties of all kinds.

Nothing made Lynn happier than spending time with her children, four granddaughters, and travelling to Florida several times per year with her dad to visit family. Lynn relished time spent with her large family, especially during the holiday seasons when she could cook, plan and decorate to her heart's delight. In the last several months, she also greatly enjoyed getting together with her large group of loyal and caring girlfriends.

Lynn's family would like to very sincerely thank Genesis Hospice and Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House for the loving care they provided her over the last many months, and we are especially grateful to Casey, who was not just Lynn's nurse, but also her friend.

Lynn Christine Schroeder Johnsen is survived by her father, Darrel Schroeder of Port Byron, her daughter Nikole Johnsen (Rick Schmitz) of Edgerton, Wisconsin, her son Brandon Johnsen (Tanya) of Estero, Florida, and her son Cole Johnsen (Maria) of Cordova, Illinois. Further, she is survived by her granddaughters, Leah Johnsen, Harper Schmitz, Lillian Schmitz and Emilia Schmitz, her sisters, Lori Schroeder of Bonita Springs, Florida, and Cheryl Hatcher (Rick) of Jensen Beach, Florida, and her brother, Thomas Schroeder of Port Byron and brother-in-law Don Kilroy of Rockford. Lynn will also be missed by many other family members and close friends who cared for her dearly, and will forever miss her kindness and gentle heart. Lynn was preceded in death by her mother Shirley Schroeder, and her sister Jan Kilroy.

Lynn's many other family members and close friends have cared for her dearly, and will forever miss her kindness and gentle heart.

In memory of Lynn, we ask that you please consider a donation to the Prader Willi Syndrome Association (USA), 8588 Potter Park Drive, Suite 500, Sarasota, FL 34238.

Lynn is in God's hands now, may she rest in peace.
