David Steinle Obituary

David H. Steinle, 85, of Burlington, Iowa, died Tuesday, August 28, 2007, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington following forty-one days of hospitalization.
Born, August 5, 1922, in Burlington, he was the son of Dr. George and Mattie (Cooke) Steinle. On June 26, 1948, in Burlington, he married Margaret Stein, also a Burlington native. They were married fifty nine years.
Mr. Steinle graduated from St. Paul's High School in Burlington and the University of Iowa. He served as a Naval Officer aboard a LCT in the Pacific during World War II.
In 1947 Steinle began at radio station KBUR where he worked for 47 years. During that time he was president and general manager and began the 100,000 watt FM station in 1972, now called KGRS. Steinle was also president of the Iowa Association of Broadcasters.
Steinle was a life time member of SS John & Paul Catholic parish and was a trustee, finance council member, and parish council president of St. Paul's Catholic Church. He also served as the original planning committee for the building of Notre Dame School.
He was named Boss of the Year by the Burlington Jaycees in 1964, past president of the Burlington Chamber of Commerce, and co-founder of the Burlington Industrial Development Corp. in 1973 and served as its president. He served as president of the Burlington Golf Club and was a charter member of the University of Iowa Carver-Hawkeye Arena building association.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret of Burlington; one son, Rev. David Steinle of West Burlington; one daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Jim Payne of Davenport; four grandchildren, Mary Beth, John, Robert and Tom of Davenport, Iowa; one sister-in-law, Mary Riepe of Bettendorf; a cousin, Nancy Tracy of Kansas City, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
Steinle was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Elise Hult.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, August 31, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Catholic Church with the Rev. David Steinle and Rev. Patrick Hilgendorf officiating. Concelebrants are priests from the Diocese of Davenport. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. at the church today with the family present to greet friends until 8 p.m. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Military Rites will be conducted by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.
A memorial has been established for the Burlington Catholic Schools. Prugh Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.

We were sorry to hear of the death of your Father. We attended the visitations tonight of Eileen's Mother-in-law, Clinton, and our son-in-law's Father, Ken Guy, Davenport. We won't be able to go to your father's funeral but you have our thoughts and prayers.
