Pottsville, died Thursday morning at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, Allentown.
Born October 12, 1948, in Pottsville, Jack was the son of the late John Tice Dolbin Sr. and the late Lois Schlottman Dolbin.
Jack was a spiritual man who had a great love for his faith and God. As a child growing up in Pottsville, he attended Trinity Lutheran Church; while residing in Denver, Colo., he attended South Sheridan Baptist Church; after moving back to his hometown of Pottsville, he and his family were members of Word of Life Baptist Church.
He was a 1966 graduate of Pottsville Area High School; 1970 class of Wake Forest University, Winston Salem, N.C.; and a 1977 graduate of the National College of Chiropractic, now known as the National University of Health Sciences, Lombard, Ill.
Jack was an allstate halfback for Pottsville High; he was elected to play in the Big 33 game against Texas. He was an outstanding basketball and track and field athlete setting records in the 220 yd. dash, long jump and triple jump.
Following an outstanding football career at Wake Forest University where he was All-ACC his sophomore year and All-ACC Track and Field 2 years straight, setting the 220 yard sprint record.
Jack continued to play football professionally in 1970 with the Pottstown Firebirds and won the Atlantic Coast Football League Championship. That moment in his career was just as memorable to him as his Super Bowl season with the Broncos. In 1971, Jack continued his semi-pro
career with Schuylkill County Coal Crackers of the
Seaboard Football League. After a few years out of football he earned a spot in 1974 with the World Football League's Chicago Fire.
In 1975 he earned a roster spot as a wide receiver with the Denver Broncos. He played 67 consecutive games
starting 33 of them. He highlighted his NFL career by
starting in Super Bowl 12 for the Broncos. He was their leading receiver in the Super Bowl against the Dallas
Cowboys.
He was elected to the Pottsville All Sports Hall of Fame, the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame and the Semi-Pro Football Hall of Fame.
After retiring from football, he began his career as a
chiropractor. He was a beloved chiropractor in Pottsville for 33 years. He was an outstanding educator and
entertaining lecturer. He was committed to evidence based health care for his patients and presenting education to chiropractors everywhere. He had a genuine passion for the profession and his patients often called him a "miracle worker."
Dr. Dolbin was active in many organizations locally, state and countrywide. He was a former member of the Board of Directors for Pottsville Area School; former member of Pottsville City Council; board member of Penn State
University, Schuylkill Campus; involved with Fellowship of Christian Athletes; guest faculty at University of
Pennsylvania Medical School, 2003; previous team
chiropractor for Villanova University Athletic Department; team chiropractor for the University of Maryland
gymnastics team; event chiropractor for Pan-American Weightlifting competition, 2001; and an active member of the American Chiropractic Association and the
Pennsylvania Chiropractic Association.
Jack had so many hobbies, too many to list all of them. He loved flying and earned a private pilot license. He found
every excuse to fly. He loved horseback riding, could play music by ear on many different instruments: clarinet,
piano, guitar, harmonica, and would watch Perry Mason
reruns or Law and Order anytime he could. He loved the New York Yankees and called Mickey Mantel his all-time favorite player.
Jack will be deeply missed by many friends and
colleagues however no one will miss him more than his family. He and his wife Jane (Barnes), celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary, July 30. The couple was blessed with four children and eleven grandchildren: son, Josh Dolbin, husband of Jennifer, Orwigsburg, Pa.; daughter, Jill Pillus, wife of David, Brentwood Tenn.; daughter, Rachel
Schreiner, wife of Chris, Arlington, Va.; and daughter, Christian L. Dolbin, Pottsville, Pa. Grandchildren: John Tice "JT" III, Rebekah J., Joshua Luke Jr., Noah R.,

Jane, I am so sorry to hear about Jack's passing last year. What a great human being with so many gifts which he shared so generously with so many. I can't imagine what this last year has been like...well, in a way, a long way ago, I can. The first year, and many there after, bring their challenges and, yes, their good moments and memories. I just hope you are well and okay.
It's been a while since we've been in touch...life goes on and we each have more than we can handle just keeping up with our own kids, grandkids, family- One of the reasons I found out about Jack was searching for you. I knew you were probably still in Pottstown, and I talked with Gary Flora who was searching for you about the CSHS upcoming reunion/Last Blast, June 7, 8 in Roanoke. I told him I'd check my "resources" to see if I could find you. If there's any way we can reach you, please let me know at [email protected]. I would love to stay in touch.
Peace, Wellness, and Gratitude,
Betsy

Jack was my hero! We were Co-captains on the Wake Forest track team for the 69-70 season. Loved being a teammate of Jack's and also during football season my partner was his future wife, Jane Barnes Dolbin. She always hit me when Jack fumbled the ball, ha ha. It was a gentle fist to my arm in her frustration. We were great friends. I am so amazed at everything that Jack has accomplished in his life and the most wonderful was the love he shared for his family and friends. Never will be another guy like Jack, my teammate and friend.

I first met Doc about 25 years ago at a Shamokin Kiwanis interclub event at the Yuengling brewery in Pottsville. His presentation was informative, fun , and I was told he was an accomplished sports chiropractor.
I next met Jack at a popular local "watering hole "(Greystone) which I frequented on Friday nights about 7-8 years ago. I came to appreciate his inclusion of the
diverse cast of characters that gathered there and his rapier like wit.
A few months ago I, my nephew Nicholas Feudale , Jack and his lovely wife gathered for dinner at a restaurant outside Orwigsburg. The reason for the gathering was Jack agreeing to meet my 18 year old grandnephew, who is an avid Bronco's fan. I was aware of Jack's illness and he had to cancel several times due to health reasons. I told him that my request was a clear imposition and that a note to my nephew would suffice. Jack persisted/insisted we would gather and to be "patient" with him.
Our dinner gathering exceeded my and Nicholas expectations. Jack was obviously quite ill but in Nick's view he was the Super Bowl hero of his past. He posed for pictures signed a Denver Broncos football and gave Nick his last rookie card. Nick( who unlike his Uncle) is not a professional football diletante, especially as to the Broncos past and present, and Doc regaled each other with Denver football lore. Doc made his day, week, and thereafter.
There is a Shakespeare line about Julius Caesar that comes to mind about my on and off acquaintance with Jack. "His spirit is gentle and the elements so mixed in him that nature might stand up and shout to the world-THIS IS A MAN."I might add as I read his obituary, who has much about which to be proud.
My nephew and I will be at the memorial service on friday. Namaste!

Jane and family, very sorry to hear of Jack's passing. It brings back some great memories of times spent babysitting for you in Denver, Jack's willingness to help coach me and our little Silver State Patriots football team, good times catching up in Richmond (when Josh was down for a game), etc. I look forward to seeing Jack again someday, and will be thinking of you as you adjust to life (on this side of heaven) without him.

So sorry for your loss. I remember him as my childhood playmate. He was the first boy I ever kissed. We were playing spin the bottle, and i chose to kiss him. I was 6 and he was 4. As an adult, he was influential in my spiritual conversion. I thank God for him. May God comfort all of you who grieve. In Christ's love, Patricia Yuengling

Upon reading the Denver Post yesterday we learned of Jack's passing.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Dolbin Family.
We attended all of the home games that Jack played in Mile High Stadium. Enjoyed visiting with him outside the locker room after the games. We have fond memories of Jane, Jack and Josh visiting our home shortly after they arrived in Denver.
Our grandson played wide receiver during high school and selected the #82. Jack wrote "Tell Kyle I'll be pulling for him (Good #)."
I am a relative of the family - Peggy Dolbin Sterner - (daughter of Benjamin Howard Dolbin Sr. - Penbrook, PA).
We were so very proud of Jack for his professional and athletic career. What an outstanding man!
With sympathy,

I am just seeing this now and am saddened, he was a chiropractor in Pottsville, PA. which is only about an hour from me and I several times thought about driving up to see him and just perhaps talk about his days with the Broncos, I have been a fan since 1973 so I have great memories of him during his playing time there. I don't know why he passed at a relatively young age but whatever it was I hope he didn't suffer, and I hope that he finds peace on the other side.
Thanks for the great memories!

My condolences to the Dolbin Family. I am saddened to hear he has past. I met Jack when I was 12 yrs old he came to see me at St. Anthony's hospital back in 1976 when he found out about a serious bicycle accident I had near Mile Hi Stadium he came to visit me and to present me with an autographed Broncos football. That is something I will never forget in my life time. I still have that football till this day and I never forgot him in memory. All these years I wondered what had become of him or where he lived and now I know and I am deeply sadden to hear the sad news of the big kind hearted man. Rest in peace my football hero I never forgot you in thoughts every time I looked at that special football you presented me with. I just never knew how to find you to say thank you for that special day in my life... Thank you Jack Dolbin you earned your wings graciously.. Joseph Quintana, Denver, CO.

Before we connected on Facebook I had not see Jack in years. I first meet Jack when we worked security at Pennies in Lombard and he was attending chiropractic college. We struck up a friendship that I will always cherish. I was fortunate to see him play football during his time with the Broncos. Jack was an amazing athlete but always remained humble. I am shocked and deeply sadden by his death. I knew Jack to be a dedicated and loving family man. I will sorely miss him. Rest in Peace Jack.

1970 Pottstown Firebirds

Jack was one of the greatest wide receiver in professional football. He was the consummate team player who helped create the family atmosphere of The Pottstown Firebirds. His intellect was so evident as example of his professional careers, community and religious endeavors. Jack's family was the most important thing to him. We would have discussions of family life which helped us come together as a team and family. This is one of the reasons we were champions of the league in 1970! To the Dolbin family, we are sorry for your loss but we will never forget Jack. He is in our hearts forever. So, Jack we know you are in peace now and we will see you under the goal posts Jack when we meet again!

I played with Jack with the Pottstown Firebirds and Skhuylkill Valley coalcrakers. I was a defensive back and Jack of course a wide receiver. Jack was one of the greatest wide receiver I ever had to cover. We defensive backs developed our own special pass coverages for Jack. They were not very successful! Jack could be running with you stride for stride and then all of sudden he would accelerate past you like you were standing still. The only time I keep up with Jack is when I would grab his jersey under his arm to be able to try and run with him. But besides being a great wide receiver, Jack was one of the finest human beings I ever knew. I know of what I speak as a Doctor of Psychology for over 40 years. Jack enjoyed his professional careers and performed his duties with great diligence and expertise. But what Jack cared about the most was his family. He use to tell me that family was everything. He helped create the family atmosphere as a teammate. I miss my good friend. Jack wrote in my Firebird book when we got to be with Jack a few weeks ago in Pottstown :' Billy we have been friends for 50 years.' Thank you for your friendship as you will be missed but never forgotten.

Jack you will be missed as one of the best players for 1970 Pottstown Firebirds! Your great routes and pass catching ability is remembered not only by the fans but also we players appreciated your great ability. You were a teammate who could always be counted on for professionalism and presented a positive presence . You were a good friend and always promoted being a family as a team! Your statement that your Firebird ring means as much to you as your Bronco Super ring says it all for us! So, Jack, meet you under the goal post when we meet again!

Jane and family,
Hearing of Jack's passing was shocking, as I was unaware of his medical condition. When we were freshmen, Jack invited me to join his family for Thanksgiving, on Howard Ave. We had a great weekend and I was made to feel like one of the family. At the 2005 Tate-reunion we had lots of laughs at an all too brief remembering of the 'old days'. A picture was taken of our school friends which included you. I shall always cherish the image of Jack, et al.
Sincerely, Dan.
