Petra Schmidt Obituary
Petra H. Schmidt, born June 17, 1955, in Solingen, Germany, died at home in Charming Forge, PA, on August 5, 2015.

She is mourned by her parents, Rolf D. Schmidt and Renate U. Schmidt; her brother, Rolf A. Schmidt; a niece, Amanda Schmidt (partner, Hiep); two nephews, Tyson and his wife, Stacey Schmidt; Harrison Schmidt (partner, Brenda); many aunts, uncles, cousins and countless caring friends and associates.
"Pete" is well remembered for her unique and outstanding talent in the arts and design and for her selfless attention and support for others around her.
Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me
Somewhere over the rainbow bluebirds fly
Birds fly over the rainbow.
Why then, oh, why can't I?
A private service will be held for close family.

I never met Petra...but I am so saddened by her tragic death! To her family...please accept my heartfelt condolences!! Parents should never have to bury their children ( mine did too). My heart goes out to Petra's family...God bless you all!!

I am so sorry for the loss of Petra. I grew up with Petra and the wonderful Schmidt family. She has been a longtime friend. My heart is saddened with the news of Petra's passing. She was a caring, compassionate person and loved all her animals dearly. She was an inspiring artist. Our thoughts, love and prayers go out to the Schmidt family. Petra will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Prayers and condolences on the loss of Pete. She was an amazing, beautiful,classy, inspiring woman. I met Pete through my mother, Betty Pope McDonough when I was about 15 years old. I always admired her and her talent. On my 16th birthday Pete had given me a cat that she had rescued behind her florist shop on 5th Street on Reading. I loved that cat dearly as I did Pete. Rest in peace Petra and fly high with those angels!

Words can't describe the grief I feel for the loss of my dear friend. She was my first true friend when you all came here from Germany. My heart goes out to all of her dear family. The Gretna Art show this weekend reminded me of her wonderful exhibitions at the show. I know she is at peace now. Her light is shining in the heavens. Dear Rolf and Renate, I am sorry for the loss of your daughter Petra. I meet Petra 2 years ago while working at Boyers supermarket. I am a cashier there. She came walking over to me out of the blue, and said I know it is hard to be new somewhere . I was new, I am from NY, she was my instant friend. I'll always remember the story my brother Doug told me about Pete putting the stewardesses in their place, during the senior class trip to Europe. She will always be remembered in a myriad of ways.

So sorry to hear of Petra's passing. She was a member of our Civil War reenactment group's (53rd Penna. Volunteer Infantry, Co. C) ladies auxiliary in the late 80s/early 90s. We always enjoyed her company at our events. Attached is a photo of her at one of the 53rd's holiday dinners at the Railroad House in Marietta. I believe it was 1989.

To the Schmidt family, we just saw Pete about a month ago at Giant shopping and had alot of fun talking and remembering. And as always our animals were the focal point. Of course I have soooo many fond memories of the years we worked together. Our sincerest and heartfelt sorrow and prayers to all of you. She touched many lives with her joyful spirit and love of her animals. I am glad she was a part of my life.
