He was the husband of Lorrayne B.
(Miller) Klahr, whom he married December 3, 1966. Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Stanley H. and Sara E. (Stover) Klahr.
He was a graduate of Governor Mifflin HS in 1962 and
Albright College in 1966.
An incredibly gifted athlete, Mike was a standout 4-sport athlete at Governor Mifflin High School (football,
basketball, baseball and track) and at Albright College, he played basketball and baseball. Mike played minor league baseball in the Chicago Cubs organization as a switch hitting-shortstop.
During Mike's high school career at Governor Mifflin, he was the county's leading scorer in basketball and 1st Team All-County. He was also selected by basketball officials as the runner-up as the county's top senior player behind Dick Graul.
Mike was inducted into the Albright College Sports Hall of Fame in 1993 for his outstanding play in basketball and baseball. His basketball accomplishments included 1,405 career points, Most Outstanding Player in 1964-65, two year all MAC player and conference MVP; in baseball he was the Northern Division MVP in 1966, a two time all MAC player and the Northern Division MVP in 1966. He was inducted into the PA Sports Hall of Fame, Berks
County Chapter in 1992 and the Reading Berks Basketball Association Hall of Fame in 2015. Mike was an honorable mention Small College Basketball All-American.
As a junior and senior at Albright College, Mike was
selected as the team's MVP, team's leading scorer, and
selected to 1st Team All-Conference (M.A.C.). He was also selected to a NCAA playoff All-Tournament Team and was selected to a 15-man All-State Team that consisted of both university and college division players. Mike was also
selected to play on Albright's All-County Team and won honorable mention Converse All-American Team. He led Albright to its only back-to-back M.A.C. Championships, which hasn't been repeated since the 1965-66 season.
Because of Mike's outstanding play against Drexel
University, in both the M.A.C. Championships and the NCAA Regional Playoff Tournament, he was selected by Drexel to be their "most outstanding male athlete
opponent of the year" and was presented with this title at their end-of-year sports banquet.
Mike held various positions throughout his professional career. Initially he was a Social Studies teacher at Reading High School; later, he was a Realtor and Real Estate Broker for many years. He also served as the manager of Penn Title and Berks Title Insurance Companies. Mike held many
positions in sales, but most recently he worked for Tecta American Roofing (formerly Wolfe Roofing and Sheet
Metal).
Mike was a talented golfer, who won many local
tournaments, and had 5 holes-in-one. He especially loved playing with his sons.
Music was a treasured pastime, with some favorite
vocalists such as Frank Sinatra, Patsy Cline, Vince Gill, Ronnie Milsap and any barbershop.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four children: Christopher M. (Maribeth), Cumru Twp; Timothy D. (Daphne), Shillington; Daniel M., Cumru Twp.; and
Thomas G. (Sheri), Cumru Twp. There are two siblings, Stephen C. (Judy), Cumru Twp., and Connie E. (Gary) Pleam, Mohnton.
Seven grandchildren: Jacob, Casey, Dylan, Mason,
Joshua, Jaden and Emma, also survive him.
He was predeceased by his older brother, Phil.

Dear Lorraine - I knew Mike my whole life. But, we'd lost touch for decades, only to have a nice, long phone conversation a few weeks back. Oh my, the memories, from playing cowboys and indians to our many joint family trips to the hunting camp in Lycoming County. Then, football, baseball and track together. He was the best athlete that I ever was associated with. He could do anything. Anything. A great person who will be rembered by all who competed with or against him. But, oh my, what a great friend to grow up with. I miss those time, but, I do have those memories. My best to you and your family.

When I was younger I had Mr. Klahr as a teacher. He was always practicing his swing and we would all crack up. He was a great teacher and I feel for his family. The world needs more people to teach like Mike Klahr

It is with deepest sympathy i right these words. Mike was and always will be in our hearts forever. He was a great friend and a wonderful golfing buddy. Faye and I were shocked when we found out of his passing. We always used to call each other Arnie in memory of Arnold Palmer who also passed. I think its ironic that the Cubbies are going to the World Series and his Nittany Lions upset the number two team in the nation Ohio State.May the good Lord bless Lorrayne and his family. Keep a tee time open for when I arrive.

Dearest Lorrayne, Connie, and families,
I have known Mike for over 50 years but only in the last 8-10 years or so have I grown to know him more closely. I always respected his athletic abilities but, in addition, Mike was a humble, gentle, caring and intelligent guy. We had many conversations about sports and other meaningful topics which is how I learned to admire the kind of person he was on the inside. He was a true professional and a true gentleman. Needless to say we will all miss him greatly but I offer many prayers for his family who will miss him the most. May God bless you all for he loved his family very much. Rest In Peace my friend. God bless you!!

To the Klahr family:
I graduated from Albright in Mike's class. Other than admiring his skills on the basketball court, I got to know Mike much better when I spent two seasons as the team's statistician. He was an outstanding athlete, but the first words that always came to my mind whenever someone mentioned his name were: What a gentleman! Albright had very successful basketball teams in 1965 and 1966 and there were players who may have been flashier and occasionally score more points than Mike. But no one combined Mike's ability with the grace and sportsmanship he always displayed. I am sure those are among the personal traits that must have made him a wonderful husband and father. I am sorry that you have lost him.
With deepest sympathies,
Jose Sanchez

Dear Klahr Family, I extend my sympathy to you on this sad occasion. You have lost one of the finest men I've ever known. I met Mike in 1971 at the Children's Home of Reading and had many opportunities to carry his golf clubs in tournaments he played. What a joy it was to experience his kindness and grace under pressure in life and on the golf course. I still refer to how much he was a positive influence on me at a pivotal point in my teens. God's grace be with all of you as you grieve.
