Born in West Reading, Pa., on January 22, 1969, she was a daughter of David R. and Vicki (Lindgren) Appler of Cumru Township.

Amy graduated from Governor Mifflin High School in 1987 after an outstanding academic and athletic career that included being an accomplished gymnast, competing at the national level for a chance to make the Olympic team, a 6th place PIAA medal in diving, and a third place PIAA medal for shot put and was inducted into their Hall of Fame

September 1, 2017.

She went on to Ithaca College, N.Y., where she returned to gymnastics and was a two-time national champion

gymnast, setting three school records, and was a National Champion in 1990 in floor exercise and all-around and was a national runner-up in the balance beam, before

graduating in 1991. Amy was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2004.

Amy also won three individual crowns at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) meet as well, finishing first in the vault, floor exercise and all-around.

Following graduation from Ithaca, Amy returned to Berks County and taught in the Hamburg School District from 1991-1996, where she also coached field hockey and track.

She joined the Governor Mifflin family in 2006, where she taught health and physical education at the high school for 10 years and was a coach for the track team at the

middle school. She was also the chair for the Celebrate My Drive through State Farm Insurance.

Amy was a gymnastics coach for almost 20 years at Berks Gymnastics, Reading, where she molded and mentored

numerous young women.

She was a member of GT Church, Spring Township.

Amy will most be remembered for her infectious smile and love of life.

She was most grateful for all the love and support that she received from her family, friends and the entire

community.

Amy was a devoted mother to her two boys, Hunter M., a senior at Sacred Heart University and Trevor M., a senior at Wilson High School.

She is also survived by a brother, William R., husband of Melanie (Mahon) Appler, of Sinking Spring; and several nieces and nephews: Sophie, Emma, Tyler, Noah, Michaela, Brendan and Ian.

Dear Appler & Hatlee families,
My deepest sympathies and condolences to you all. It's been 30 years, but I have fond memories of Amy from my time at BGA (1981-1987). "Applesauce", as we called her then, was strong, kind and had a smile a mile wide that lit up the room. May God bless you and give you peace during this time of sorrow.
