Marie Dorothy Rago Our mom, Marie Dorothy Rago, 95, a longtime resident of Lake County, passed away December 21, 2017, in Sandpoint, Idaho. Marie was born in San Francisco, September 30, 1922, to Angelina and Michael Machi. She grew up in North Beach and loved the city, but in 1948 she fell in love and married Calogero Rago in his home town of Salemi, Sicily in December. Later they returned and lived in San Francisco and South San Francisco where they raised their three children. Marie worked in the cafeteria at Alta Loma Junior High School in South San Francisco for many years. In 1977, Marie and Carl retired and moved to Lakeport, where they lived a wonderful life, traveling and spending time with family and grandchildren for the next 28 years. She loved Lake County and enjoyed her life here. Marie would spend countless hours at Angelina's Bakery (named after her mother, Angelina) helping her daughter, Nina, and granddaughter, Angy. She enjoyed people and always had a great story to tell. She also volunteered at Lakeside Hospital, St. Johns and Hospice for many years. Marie is survived by her three children, Charles (Terry) of Bend, OR, Nina (Jack) of Kelseyville, CA, and Richard (Corrine) of Sandpoint, ID; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; niece, Mickey Torre of Daly City, CA; and many nieces and nephews in Sicily, Italy. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Angelina and Michael Machi, her husband, Calogero Rago, and sister, Sandy Torre. She was so loved by her family and will be forever missed. Marie had such wonderful faith and always lived with the Lord in her heart. We know now that she is at last with our dad and our Heavenly Father.
