Janet Marczak Obituary

Janet E. (Holuba) Marczak, 89, of Wallingford, was called Safely Home by the Lord on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2018. She passed away peacefully with her family by her side at The Meriden Center in Meriden.

Janet was born on May 1, 1929 in Kalinowka, Poland, the daughter of the late Bronislaw and Lucy Holuba. She helped to raise her brothers while her parents worked hard to keep them all safe after the German invasion of Poland during World War II. While at a deportation camp in Germany, Janet met Henry Walter Marczak. Janet and her family moved to the United States in 1947. She was reunited with her true love, Henry Walter, and the two were married in 1951. They settled in Wallingford to raise their family. Janet was as an Au Pair in White Plains, N.Y., a seamstress, and worked for Stanley Drapery and Hardware and then worked for Corometrics Medical Systems until her retirement in 1996. Janet dedicated her life to helping handicapped children, in support of her son, Henry. Janet was an avid gardener, a spectacular cook, and an inspiration to all who knew her. Her family and friends will continue to carry on her Polish traditions in her memory. She was a devout Catholic, and the matriarch of her small Polish family. She was a communicant of SS Peter and Paul Church, and also a dedicated member of the Polish National Alliance Lodge 513.

She will join in Heaven her beloved husband Henry, who passed away in 1989. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Stanley and John Holuba. She leaves behind her two loving children, Christine Preuit, of Portsmouth, R.I., and Henry F. Marczak, of Wallingford, Conn. She also leaves behind her two adoring grandchildren, Craig Preuit and his partner, Mary Beth, of Wallingford, Conn., and Kim Lowman and her husband, Travis, of East Granby, Conn.; and her three precious great-grandchildren, Dylan, Xavier, and Maxwell, all who will cherish everything their Babci taught them. She is also survived by her youngest brother, Eugene, his wife Julie, and their two children, Daniel, with wife, Rose, of Meriden, and Cheryl, of Wallingford. Janet is survived by many nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family, and friends. The family wishes to thank The Atrium of Rocky Hill Assisted Living, The Meriden Center, and Compassus Hospice for their compassion, care, and support of Janet over the last few years.

Janet's family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., Friday, Sept. 7 from 9 to 10 a.m., when the funeral cortege will proceed to SS Peter and Paul Church for a Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in SS Peter and Paul Cemetery in Wallingford. Donations in Janet's memory may be made to MidState Arc, Attn: Fundraising, 200 Research Parkway, Meriden, CT 06450. www.yalesvillefh.com

Being the devout Christian that Janet was, I light this candle as she did many times in her life. But instead of lighting it for her as she is Home now, I light it in memory of her loving strength. For those of us she left behind, though she is gone, her light lives on in all our memories and encourages us to model her in so many ways to bring peace and comfort to many others in her memory. Two years or 20, we will always miss you 'til we see you again. Love Always, Penny

The memories I have of Janet are mostly from my childhood years and are very special. She was such a strong presence and so caring and nurturing. From taking care of her family to her love of gardening to hosting family events to cooking amazing meals. She always said it like it was and I loved that about her. My parents Lou and Karen Berckmoes and my sister Kari and I always enjoyed family time together. I will always cherish the memories.

To Chris and the whole family,
Marcia and I share your sorrow over the loss of Janet. I remember as a child, Janet would stop by and pick up Penny and myself in the summer to take us to the beach with you and Henio. Even as an adult, she gave us our wedding in her yard with the garden in bloom and all the food she herself cooked. Being my godmother, she wanted our wedding to be special for us.
We'll miss stopping by her house and visiting with her whenever we came home to visit from Pennsylvania.
Love,
Tony and Marcia Holuba

My fondest memory of aunt janet would be everytime you came over to her house hungry or not she would always pull food out of her fridge to make sure you ate something. I would always feel guilty if i did not eat anything because she always said i was too skinny. Love you aunt janet, felicia

Janet was always a warm, kind, and dear friend to my mom Sophie. My Mom spent many happy hours visiting with Janet at her house and in her beautifully kept garden. The garden always radiated a sense of peace and tranquility. On behalf of my mom and our entire family, I want to say - Janet you will always be in our hearts. We know that Heaven's garden will bloom brighter now that you are there to care for it.

What can I say?
Having Janet as my aunt for 60+ years has been a blessing beyond words. She shared her love for life and all her life's experiences with everyone she knew in a caring and nurturing way. She was the epitome of what a true matriarch is. She modeled the strength that I have learned to use in my life.
As a result, I am grateful for all of Janet's relationships as they all helped to mold her into the special person she was. I hope that everyone who was part of Janet's life may draw comfort in knowing that she is at peace now, yet lives on in our loving memories.
Forever,
Penny (Holuba) Marotta

Dear Babci,
I miss you. I waved to you in the clouds today. Mommy tells me you have a big gold halo, and pink wings. Your favorite color is blue- I wore that to school today, just for you. I love you so much. Love, your great grandson Max

To all the Marczak/Holuba Family,
We miss each of you along with Janet because of those famous "family picnics" she had. There's also a few of her dishes that'll be missed by us all. Here's hoping we can get together and have a few more in her honor.
