Stella Fiora

Stella C. Fiora (Yusza), 95, of Wallingford, died peacefully on Friday, Aug. 31, 2018.

Stella was born in Southington, Conn. on April 8, 1923. She was one of seven children born to the late Frank and Elizabeth Yusza. Her parents immigrated to the United States from Poland in the early 1900s and raised their family in Connecticut. Stella is predeceased by her husband of 72 years, John J. Fiora; by her three brothers, John Yusza, Walter Yusza, and Edward Yusza; and her three sisters, Helen Alfonso, Connie Sargeant, and Anne Letora. She is also predeceased by her granddaughter, Lauren Elizabeth Glidden.

She was a lifelong faithful member of the Catholic Church; attending The Most Holy Trinity Church in Wallingford for more than 50 years.

Stella approached life with a steadfast resolve coupled with compassion. Her parents, siblings, her children and grandchildren have all been blessed with her unselfish caring and guidance. Throughout her life, her sense of humor and positive attitude carried her through life's many challenges.

She was an accomplished pastel artist and had won several awards for her work. She was a lifelong learner and attended university classes at night and earned her college degree.

She is survived by her seven children, John J. Fiora Jr. and his wife, Jacquelyne (Boyd), Naomi Fiora, James Fiora and his wife, Laura (Barr), Richard Fiora and his wife, Ina (DeJesus), Nanci Horbock and her husband, James, Adeline Glidden and her husband, Bob, and William Fiora and his wife, Kirstie (Rice). Additionally she is survived by her 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren who will dearly miss their Babci.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Stella's memory can be made to the Franciscan Life Center, 271 Finch Ave., Meriden, CT 06451. During the last days of her life, the Franciscan sisters and nurses were the calm angels of comfort and compassion who shepherded Stella, in body and mind, to peacefully leave this life. Her family will be forever grateful to them for their wisdom and kindness.

A Mass of Christian burial will be Celebrated on Wednesday, Sept. 5 at 10 a.m. at the Most Holy Trinity Church, 68 N. Colony Road, Wallingford, Conn.
