William A. Coutermash Jr.(1935 - 2018)

William A. "Bill" or "Skip" Coutermash Jr., 83, of Southington, husband of the late Antonia "Toni" (Tyner) Coutermash, died on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2018 after a lengthy illness.

Bill was born in Meriden on Jan. 9, 1935, to the late William Arthur and Bernice Frances (Hinman) Coutermash. He was a Mechanical Drafting graduate of the H.C. Wilcox Technical School, Class of 1953, and spent his career as a Mechanical Draftsman and Mechanical Engineer. Bill was also a lifelong resident of South Meriden and an active member of the South Meriden Volunteer Fire Department from 1963 through 1979, serving as Chief for many years. Skip was a life-long fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and a devoted supporter of the UCONN Women's Basketball team.

Bill leaves behind his two cherished daughters, Cynthia Jane C. and her husband, Charles Ernest Chapman Sr.; and Barbara Ann C. and her husband, Leo Alfred Valiquette Jr; a granddaughter, Jade Christa Palmer and her husband, Chris; two grandsons, Charles Ernest Chapman Jr. and his husband, Marc; and Jack Arthur Chapman and his wife, Konoka; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves his sister, Jean Frances C. and her husband, Lyle Peters Smith. Bill was predeceased by the love of his life, "Toni", to whom he was happily married for 53 years. He was also predeceased by his beloved son, William Arthur "Billy" Coutermash III; and his sister, Frances Ann C. Boisvert.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 5 at 10:30 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, and at 11 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Angels, Holy Angels Campus, for a Mass of Christian burial. Burial will follow in St. Laurent Cemetery.
