Ann M. (Francolino) Fischer, 97, of Wallingford, CT, loving wife of the late William R. Fischer, passed away Monday, January 3, 2022 at Masonic Care.
Ann was born on Allen St., New Britain, CT July 6, 1924, the youngest of eight children to Prospero and Carmela (Fillipo) Francolino. She was predeceased by her 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
After graduating from New Britain High School in 1942, Ann began her studies to become a nurse. She graduated in 1945 with a nursing diploma from New Britain General Hospital. Following graduation, she worked at New Britain General Hospital, World War II Veterans Memorial Hospital, Gaylord Hospital and various doctors' offices until 1966. Then she started as a school nurse in the Wallingford School system with eight of those years spent as the Nurse Coordinator. She was a passionate devoted nurse who wouldn't retire until age 80 in 2004.
In addition to her years of service to the schools, Ann also taught CPR for the Red Cross and was a board member of the Visiting Nurses Association of Wallingford.
Ann is survived by her 5 children, William and Alice Fischer of Meriden, David and Loraine Fischer of Virginia Beach, VA, Marianne Fischer and Burt Faulkner of Methuen, MA, Diana (Fischer) and Terris Reddick of Boston, MA and Harold and Helaine Fischer of Ridgefield, CT. She has 12 grandchildren, Jonathan, Marc, Elizabeth, Sarah, Amber, Eliza, Carmen, Terris, Marianna, Zachary, Ari and Jordan; 3 great-grandchildren Kayla, Hayden and Taylor. She is also survived by her dear sister-in-law Martha as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Until Ann's last day on this Earth, she was devoted to helping loved ones all around. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, friend and caregiver who will be fondly remembered for her amazing spirit. She loved playing bridge, talking with her friends, cooking prize-winning meatballs, sheet apple pie and lemon meringue pie. There wasn't a choir she wouldn't join. She spent years as a member of the Holy Trinity Church Choir, Church of Resurrection and most recently the Masonic Choir where at the age of 95, she even learned a new skill joining the bell choir. She never stopped learning and embracing life. She will be missed by her family and friends, old and new. She never stopped making friends including her friends at the Johnson Apartments.
The Fischer family would like to thank the staff at Masonic Health Care on Ramage 4th floor and the Hospice Care Team for their caring support for Ann and our family in her final days.

I offer my heartfelt sympathy on the loss of my dear friend Ann. My husband, John and I were long time friends with Ann and Bill. At one point, they lived in a small apartment in a house that we owned on Colony Street. In our later years, Ann and I both lived at Masonicare where she was a friend to everyone. We attended a Catholic Mass in the chapel every Monday morning. After I moved to Colorado in 2019, I missed meeting Ann in the hallways and seeing her lovely smile!

I’m so sorry to hear of Ann’s passing! What a wonderfully smart and funny woman! I met Ann at two different stages of my life - once as a child, she was our school nurse in elementary school. She was always kind to us kids. Then a few years ago, I met her when my Dad, Norman Leigh, moved to the Johnson apartments at Masonic. Ann was so welcoming and kind to my Dad as “the new kid on the block”. He was so nervous about meeting new people but Ann and the “girls” as I would affectionately call them, were gracious and kind and chatted up with him right away. I loved to walk into the building at Johnson to visit my Dad and see Ann and all of the “crew” sitting in their chairs by the front door laughing and talking up a storm. I would sometimes join them for a few minutes and we would just laugh and laugh! Ann would pop in and visit my Dad when he sometimes went to the inpatient medical side to “check in on my friend Norm”. Because of Ann, my Dad felt welcomed and made some cherished new friendships at The Johnson which he was so grateful until his own passing last year. Thank you, Ann! I hope you , my Dad and the other members of the crew are sitting in your coveted chairs at the front of the pearly gates telling stories again and laughing up a storm! God bless!

Dear Marianne,
My sincere condolences to you and all your family. I've thought of your Mom--and you--so often since seeing you in September. I remember her as such a kind woman, with a generous spirit and a beautiful smile, who touched the hearts of so many people throughout her life. And I know that, like you, she was a person of true faith. I hope that your shared faith and your memories of her well-lived life and good times together will bring you peace and comfort at this time.
Please take care.

I am so sorry for your loss! Maryanne Fisher I only got to know your mom through you sharing stories about her and you gave me the opportunity to share a philosophy with you in your classroom, one I believe in and your mom has touched many lives and she too lived with that philosophy, because she lived, she loved, she learned and taught many and she grew with great wisdom and shared that wisdom with all. That wisdom has been handed down to you to carry on in life and Your mom will be there with you everyday guiding you through life’s journey. God Bless you and your family.

Ann was a wonderful presence as a mother and grandmother of terrific offspring, and, as I got to know her better in her later years, as a strong advocate of our Masonic Catholic services: mass or communion service or rosary, anchoring the back row with lively singing and careful attention. It was always encouraging to see her and her colleagues so wrapped up in what we offered that week.
I was fortunate to have worked with several of her youngsters at LHHS, and they showed the respect and class I came to expect from Ann and Bill's tribe. They helped make the teaching experience of their time a joyous adventure.
Her life was full of adventure and blessings, and we know she is enjoying her reunion with Bill, her many siblings and so many friends and former colleagues. A very special life and great legacy. Thanks, Ann.
