Maureen Schappert, 88, of Meriden, passed from this life peacefully on June 11, 2021, at Midstate Medical Center. The eldest child of the late Joseph and Catherine Young of Meriden, she was born on December 26, 1932. Maureen attended St. Rose School and Meriden High School and subsequently graduated from Pequot Business School. Using her secretarial skills, she worked at Connecticut Light & Power until her marriage.
A lifetime resident of Meriden, Maureen served her community in many ways. She was an active member of St. Rose Church for over sixty years. There, she participated in the Women's Guild, sang in the Spring Festival of Song concerts, and assisted with fundraisers. Always willing to lend a hand, she tirelessly helped elderly friends in town with house cleaning and grocery shopping. In her later years, Maureen faced physical challenges but continued to spend hours with her family and numerous friends, offering an ear with a phone call or hosting them for dinner.
Maureen will foremost be remembered for her undying devotion to her faith and family. She regularly attended weekly mass and never forgot birthdays or anniversaries of loved ones. Hers was a life well lived.
She is survived by her sons James, Kevin, and Gerard, as well as her brothers Joseph and John Young and countless nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Maureen was predeceased by Gerard, her loving husband of thirty-five years; her brother Francis; and her sisters Katherine and Roseanne.
Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, CT on Wednesday, June 16th from 5 to 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 17th at 9 am. at St. Rose of Lima Church, 35 Center St., Meriden. Everyone is asked to meet directly at church. Masks and social distancing are required for the church service. Burial will follow in St. Boniface Cemetery. To Jimmy, Kevin, and Gerry... On behalf of the entire Bremer family I would like to extend my deepest sympathies over the loss of your Mom, Maureen. Mrs. Schappert was truly one of the most devoted, faithful, and kindest parents within the St Rose School and Church Communities! Her support for school activities such as hot lunch, field trips, and even watching a class if needed set the bar for parental volunteering which may never be matched! I have nothing but fond memories of 'Gerry's Mom' from my own St Rose years. Thank you for watching over us and protecting us Mrs. Schappert. You are now amongst the Angels watching over and protecting your family once and forevermore!

My Dearest Sister Maureen:
You are now in peace and rest with the Lord in His Heavenly Kingdom, a reward you earned and richly deserve. You were the eldest of us six children and led a loving life of Faith in your Family, Church and Community! You are gone but not forgotten, may your Soul rest in God`s eternal peace.
Jimmy, Kevin and Gerry, your Mom was your pillar when your Dad passed, and you were her strength and loving Sons when she needed you most in her in her latter years, you should all be so proud of this!
