Roland Mittica

CONCORD, Calif. - Roland Mittica, 73, husband of Suzanne Mittica, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2016, at home in Concord, Calif., after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was born in Meriden, Conn., on Aug. 9, 1942, to the late Joseph and Angelina Mittica. He graduated with honors from Platt High School and Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, Mich. He worked for Aetna Insurance Company. In 1978, he moved his family from Simsbury to Concord, Calif., and with two other young men from Aetna, established the Western Home Office of Aetna in Walnut Creek, Calif. He later worked for Towers Perrin and for Wells Fargo.

Besides his wife of 47 years, he is survived by his daughter, Roanne Leclair; grandson, Noah Leclair, of Simsbury; sister, Dolores (Curtis) Adamo, of Wallingford; and brother, Donald (Beth) Mittica, of Lafayette Hill, Pa. He leaves nephews, Aaron (Natalie) Mittica, Charles (Barrie) Mittica; and two great-nieces, Ayla and Sami, all of Lafayette Hill, Pa. He leaves also a beloved aunt, Dolores Mettica, of Yalesville; and many cousins; and friends. Roland was an insightful, kind, soft spoken problem solver in work and in life. He was known for his integrity, good nature, sense of humor and love for family. He was an avid gardener and devoted baseball fan. He enjoyed the culinary diversity of the San Francisco, Calif. area. He was active in his church and sang in the choir.
