Bertha Cadarette Obituary

WEST DEERFIELD - Bertha S. (Laskoski) Cadarette, 90, of 28 Jones Road, West Deerfield passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at home.
She was born in Woronoco, Massachusetts on July 5, 1922, the daughter of Stephen and Antoinette (Matuszewski) Laskoski. She attended local schools in Erving and Orange Massachusetts. Bertha was employed at the Erving Paper Mill for 30 years. She worked at both the Erving, Mass. and Brattleboro, Vermont facilities in a supervisory position, retiring in 1986.
Bertha loved to keep busy. She enjoyed many hobbies and interests. Her greatest love, however, was her home and family. Aside from a full time job, she took pride in doing for her husband and seven children. Bertha was a fantastic cook. Everybody wanted Mom's gulumpkies. She also loved to bake. Her kitchen looked like a regular bakery around the holidays, making enough so everyone could take some home with them. Mom taught herself how to crochet. Her work was intricate and detailed. Her love for the Christmas Season was obvious. She made many ceramic pieces that decorated her home for the holiday. She decided she wanted to learn how to quilt, so Dad built her a quilting table and she made quilts for everyone. She also did a lot of sewing, including dance costumes for her girls. Mom and Dad enjoyed square dancing with the Trail Town Twirlers. Bertha was a kind and generous person. She was also extremely hard working and tough. She took on a workload of ten men and did it with love and pride for her family. She was our pillar of strength, our rock. She was loved, admired, and respected by her many dear friends and family.
Among her survivors, Bertha leaves three sons, James L. Cadarette and his wife Carol of Deerfield, Brian J. Cadarette and his wife Barbara of Greenfield, and Stephen A. Cadarette of Leyden; four daughters, Nancy A. Cadarette-Gagnon and her husband Rene'of Deefield, Diane M. Marshall and her husband Gregory of Sacramento, California, Joanne L. Cadarette of Sacramento, California, and Karen A. Cadarette of Deerfield who was her mother's full-time caregiver. Bertha also leaves two grandchildren, Michael J. Cadarette of Turners Falls and Matthew F. Cadarette of Brighton, MA., a brother John L. Laskoski of Greenfield, a sister Jennie M. Cadarette of Randolph, Vermont, and many nieces and nephews.
Bertha was predeceased by her loving husband Louis E. Cadarette on January 3, 1996 after 50 years of marriage; two brothers, Joseph Laskoski (KIA, WWII), Stanley Laskoski, and a sister Alice Sceposki.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at 8:15 am at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal Street, Greenfield followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:00 am at Holy Trinity Church, 133 Main Street, Greenfield with the Monsignor Ronald J. Yargeau officiating.
