Margaret Schultz Obituary

Margaret Anne (Lively) Schultz died October 15th at Langdon Place of Keene, where she had lived and received loving care, for the past 6 years. Margaret, "Peg", was born in Shelburne Falls, Mass on June 24, 1928 to Arthur J. and Isabelle Mary (McFarlane) Lively.

She graduated in 1946 from Arms Academy in Shelburne Falls and from The College of Our Lady of the Elms in Chicopee, Mass in 1950.

She married John H. Schultz Jr, in September 1950. Jack and Peg lived in Shelburne Falls where their six children were born. Jack died in 2007. Peg is survived by: John H. Schultz III, Retired US Army (wife Katherine Lariviere) of Peachtree City, GA; Paula S. Schultz of Halifax, VT; Kathleen S. Nichols (husband Mark) of Dublin, NH; Mary S. Black (husband John) of Stowe, VT; Joseph A. Schultz (wife Sue Ellen Gilman) of Springdale, Arkansas; and James C. Schultz (Partner, Michael Lucia) of Burlington, VT.

In 1969 the Schultzes moved to Bellows Falls, Vermont.

Peg is also survived by 9 grandchildren: Robyn Schultz Stuart (husband David) of Blacksburg, VA; Eric Schultz of Peachtree City, GA; Nate Schultz and Drew Schultz of Springdale, AR; Lucas Schultz of West Dover, VT; Samuel Black and Anna Black of Stowe, VT; Jack Black of Telluride, CO; and Hannah Lucia of Burlington, VT. A true joy for Peg was the birth of a Great Grandson, Johnathan David Stuart, in June 2017.

Peg did graduate work at U Mass Amherst, at Dartmouth Medical School Biology Institute under a National Science Foundation Grant, at Suffolk University under a NSF Grant for Marine Biology, and she received her Master's Degree in Education from Keene State College in 1977.

Peg taught Sciences (General Science, Biology, and Anatomy and Physiology) for 25 years. She taught at Colrain (Mass) Central School for 2 years, Mohawk Regional High School in Shelburne Falls for 2 years, and in Bellows Falls for 21 years. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma, the Windham Retired Teachers Association, a Lifetime Member of the National Education Association, and a member of the Bellows Falls Women's Club and the American Legion Auxiliary. Peg attended St. Charles Church and the Greater BF Adoration Chapel. In her retirement she was a volunteer Reader at Central Elementary School. Peg was a Co-chair of the American Red Cross Blood Drives for many years.

Peg enjoyed gardening, sewing, and baking her infamous Molasses cookies among other treats. She and Jack enjoyed traveling and especially excursions to the island of Vinalhaven, Maine.

I know my dad enjoyed working with Peg at BFHS and thought highly of her as an educator.

Your mother was such a wonderful teacher. I remember the final exam in biology class; we had to point out features in a dissected frog. I had a male frog, and she asked me to point out the ovaries. I wasn't sure if it was a trick question or if I just didn't know the answer, so I said "In a male frog?" and she laughed and gave me credit.
She was also so welcoming when I visited their house on Griswold Drive. I hope your memories are as fond as mine are.

Remembering her with great fondness. She was a true and cherished friend to both my parents Joan and Roy Bither. Lots of good times in Vinalhaven, Maine. The best molasses cookies ever! Cherish your memories and celebrate her life
