Jimmy Tom Spears, a lifetime resident of Porterville passed away peacefully in the arms of his wife Donna and his daughter Ashlee at Sierra View District Hospital on Friday, April 2, 2010.
Jimmy was born to Eurek and Beatrice Spears on March 10, 1943 at Porterville Hospital. He was their 6th child and only son. Dearly loved by his mother and 5 sisters, Jimmy grew to manhood with a deep respect for women.
He met and married his childhood sweetheart Donna Price in 1961. They have shared 48 years together. In 1979 their union was blessed with the birth of their beautiful daughter Ashlee Jordan Spears. She has been and continues to be the shining star of their lives. Ashlee in turn further blessed them with her marriage and the addition of 4 grandchildren.
Jimmy enjoyed a full life in his 67 years. He loved his family above all else. He also loved his motorcycle buddies, his construction friends, his card playing friends and was a father-like figure to many. Everyone said he was a "cool guy". Friends were always welcome at the Spears' family home.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his father, mother and a sister, Mary Spears Hubbs.
He is survived by his loving wife and lifetime companion Donna, his beloved daughter and son-in-law Ashlee Spears-Kane and Eric Kane, and the adored grandchildren; Alyssa (13), Gwena (9), Jordan (4) and Teagan (4 months). He is also survived by 4 sisters; Patricia Mankins of Pahrump, NV, Jo Ann Eckles of Porterville, CA, Peggy Siemer of Visalia, CA, Deanna Rider of Hanford, CA and many nieces, nephews, friends, in-laws and outlaws.
Jimmy will be sorely missed. As Jordy told us "...when you die, if you're a good person, you go to Heaven..." Jimmy was a good husband, father, brother, worker and friend. He was an all around, good guy. God speed, Jimmy.
A celebration of Jimmy's life will be held at Myer's Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at 1:30 pm. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
