George Blum Obituary

February 5, 1932 - July 7, 2017
After a brief illness George Blum died peacefully at home, thanks to Hospice of San Joaquin. Born in Lithuania, he and German parents, Martha Potschka and Rev. Emil Blum suffered many relocations during the Nazi era before immigrating to the U.S. in 1952. George graduated from Hamline University summa cum laude and earned an MA and PhD in History at the U. of Minnesota.
He taught at the University of Pacific for 37 years, both at Raymond College, an intensive, 3-year degree within University of Pacific and in COP's History Department, which he chaired for many years. He enjoyed travel, languages, classical music, and the beauty and diversity of northern California. He lived the American dream, supported many charities and donated his body to UC Davis to contribute to the world a bit longer.
George is survived by wife Bev of 56 years, twins Barbara and Alfred Blum, and grandsons Gabriel and Avery Blum. A celebration of his life will be held Sunday, August 27, 2017, 2 pm at 1st Unitarian Church, 2737 Pacific Avenue in Stockton. In lieu of flowers, he suggested donations to the American Civil Liberties Union or one's favorite charity.
