Brian C. Beall

Formerly of Goshen, N.Y.

Brian C. Beall, 61, a longtime teacher and coach at Huntington Beach Union High School, Huntington Beach, Calif., died at home on Friday, March 30, 2007 after a brief illness.

The eldest son of the late Glenn H. and Helen V. (Hannefy) Beall he was born in Goshen, on June 1, 1945.

Brian was a graduate of the Monroe-Woodbury High School in 1963; and Orange County College in Middletown but settled in Long Beach, Calif., where he earned both his Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Education from California State, Long Beach, Calif.

He was a Reading Specialist, Geography and World History teacher during a 33 year career. He worked tirelessly as both a Freshman Football coach and Pole Vault coach. He preferred the teaching aspect of Freshman Football to the competitive requirements of Varsity Football. Brian encouraged and nurtured the inclusion of women into the sport of pole vaulting; making his Marina High School "Vikings" into a respected and noted pole vault team.

Brian had diverse interests which included contract bridge, helicopter skiing in the Canadian Rockies, skiing the cornice at Mammoth Mountain. He rafted the Colorado River and hiked the Grand Canyon and truly enjoyed perfecting his golf game, even in Ireland.

Brian is survived by his wife of almost 34 years, Elizabeth (Grace) Beall, at home; and their son, Matthew (25 years) who lives at June Lake, Cali.

Surviving siblings include his sister, Ellen K. Beairsto of Middletown; and brothers, Greg D. Beall of Campbell Hall, and Kevin L. Beall of North Salem, N.Y. Also surviving are an aunt, Mrs. Elizabeth L. Sullivan of Falls Church Va.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, sister's, brother's and mother-in-law.

The family has established a memorial fund in Brian's name to award scholarships to inspirational track athletes who are also community role models and respectfully request that in lieu of flower a donation be sent to: Brian Beall Memorial Scholarship Fund, Marina High School-ASB, 15871 Springdale Street, Huntington Beach, CA 92649.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2007 at St. Maria Goretti Church, 3954 Palo Verde Avenue, Long Beach, Calif.
